Yep! And the part about social care workforce merging with the NHS (rather than it cd ever be the other way round). Many people (including my gorgeous gurl) rely on social care everyday to live well and vaguely independently but hardly use the NHS.

It might get your grandsons off their phones? It’s a shame the attitude is so different now. My younger daughter travelled by train herself from a relatively young age (about 11) from north to south London and she was fine.

Yep! And actually he says it was a Devon to Cornwall cycle - about 130miles. They stayed in a youth hostel overnight. They were 13 y.o.

When we returned to Heathrow we had to get back to Victoria coach station by a bus which never turned up. I had £5 left and asked a black cabbie to “take us as far as he could”. It meant we had no money left for snacks for the 9 hrs coach back to Glasgow. But we survived!

As an fyi, my other younger daughter did the Oliver McGowan training via a charity she’s been working for and said it’s excellent. It’s part of the charity’s mandatory training.

It’s no wonder people with severe LD&A die so much younger than the population more generally. It’s not that my daughter is less healthy or ‘more ill’, it’s because for her, accessing healthcare at a point of need, is so much harder.

The training’s good, but my 21 y.o daughter with high LD&A support needs was left waiting over an hour for a GP appt for an infection (in spite of flags on her record that). She became incredibly agitated. When the GP became available he said “well I can’t examine her in this state, can I?”.

I was on a long train journey about 15 years ago with autistic young daughter. She was getting very angst, crying and shouting. A woman started marching up to complain. 4 young men in the seats in front barred her from complaining, shooed her away, & bought me wine from the buffet car. So LOVELY!
