Being middle aged is deciding the number of PT appointments a night of standing on Brooklyn Steel's cement floors is worth. Decision: cash and a player to be named later. (Thank you @craigcalcaterra.bsky.social for flagging the tour!)
From @craigcalcaterra.bsky.social's Cup of Coffee newsletter:
Shannon and Narducy are gonna do "Document" next year

Just a couple of days after I talked about seeing Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy touring R.E.M.'s "Lifes Rich Pageant" album, yesterday they announced that in 2027 they will be touring "Document." You know, the one with "The One I Love" and "It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" on it: [image with tour dates, too many to list, you can find them here: https://www.axs.com/events/1636717/michael-shannon-jason-narducy-and-friends-play-r-e-m-s-document-tickets] A limited presale is gonna happen tomorrow with the password "Document40" at 10AM venue time today. General sale starts on Friday.

Yesterday's CSA share included 15-20 perfectly ripe Italian plums. No time to write a poem. I am racing against the clock to deal with them before they cross the compost bridge.
A bowl of 15-20 Italian plums from yesterday's CSA pickup in a dark red bowl on a shelf in my fridge. All perfectly ripe. Resigned that some will end up in the compost.

I learned about this earlier in the year from @djinnandtonic.bsky.social who had both some amazing posts about Minnesota people using similar tactics against ICE and has shirts via www.etsy.com/shop/WideAwa.... They inspired one of my favorite protest posters.
@djinnandtonic.bsky.social-inspired protest sign of the Boston anti-man hunting league sign with ICE at the center instead of SH (slave hunter). It's a bright green circle with magenta letters: ICE in the center, surrounded by 6 letters representing people who have different roles in stopping a kidnapping, one who tries to talk the kidnapper down, 5 to grab the kidnapper if that doesn't work, and an outer circle of 12 people who create a commotion so that the kidnapper can be removed from the situation).

My NYC baseball life has gone to shit since I learned the Cyclone were stealing the concessions workers' tips so this was by far the best baseball game of the season (so far). The supervisor at the gluten free stand confirmed that all tips go to his staff!
Postcard sky of clouds during golden hour looking out from just past first base towards the Fenway left field corner. Update to my Mets-ish group chat where everyone was extremely angry about the Cyclones stealing tips. "confirmed tips go to the concessions workers" "Except for it's the Red Sox and in Boston, it's baseball heaven"

I missed the perfect KKK under the floppy American flag shot because I was in hot pursuit of literally the only thing I miss about living in New England: Del's frozen lemonade. The concessions guy laughed and said that he hears that from people all the time.
A floppy American flag a the right edge of the Green Monster. I think it's half staff because of Dolly? To the right, hanging from the upper row of seats: K, K, backwards K, K. A cup of Del's frozen lemonade. Literally the best reason to live in New England.

As a newborn White Sox fan, there were some complicated ghosts: Seranthony had a clean 8 pitch inning, Fisk's retired number, how do Chase/Braden/Kyle measure up against Crochet?
Seranthony had an 8 pitch inning. Here is 3 for 3 on the scoreboard. It happened so fast they didn't post the counts after this. Red Sox retired numbers on the Right field upper deck facing: 9 (Ted Williams), 4 (Joe Cronin), 1 (Bobby Doer), 8 (Carl Yastrzemski), 27 (CARLTON FISK), 6 (Johnny Pesky), 14 (Jim Rice)A painted column with a picture of Garrett Crochet marking his height at 6'6", and HOW DO YOU MEASURE UP? on top. Heated Rivalry stuff: people randomly got Hollander or Rozanov jerseys & just swapped with strangers. Everyone got both the shirt they wanted & a great story. "Club Hollanov". Rachel Reid on the scoreboard pre-first pitch. Bsky won't let me upload part of Harrisson's on dugout DJ set with Wally!!!

I found baseball heaven (if you ignore that it's 1) the Red Sox 2) in Boston): Heated Rivalry night at Fenway. A sold out crowd, probably 60% women/not dudes. ONLY A FEW SMALL CHILDREN TARPS OFF for the first 9 innings (a few guys older in the 10th). Official Black Lives Matters signs.

Extremely large neon Coca Cola sign perches over the top row of seats.Third base line upper deck at Fenway. "BLACK LIVES MATTER" is on the scoreboard beneath the railing. I read this bowl differently than I did when I was a kid (mostly I was confused about what I saw as the mixing of eras), but I'd love your take.
A white enamel mixing bowl from my childhood with brown and black figures on it, surrounded by flowers. As a kid, I called the people who are visible in this picture: the knight, the pilgrim lady, Cleopatra (in a caftan?), and the lute playing guy. All the figures I assumed were male are wearing skirts.

Today is my 3 month White Sox anniversary, and like some who came before me, I did not expect to be here but I love it. I've hear more salty language from players and broadcast team media in 3 months (complimentary, mostly Ozzie) than in 25+ years of the Yankees!
In their first meeting as former teammates, forever besties Jerry Remy and Pudge Fisk laugh together at Fenway, opening day 1981. Both are rocking 80s finery - Pudge in the breathtaking 81 uniforms with the huge collars, Remy in what must be a Members Only jacket and big shades.

I work in dog rescue and spend way too much time lobbying (unsuccessfully) to name dogs after players on this list. But it's a useful tab to have open when one of them gets called up and we need to know more. www.mlb.com/milb/news/be...

Tugboat: Matt Wilkinson, LHP, High-A Lake County
The 6-foot-1, 250-pound southpaw's iconic nickname dates back to when he was 12 and representing Team Canada at the Little League World Series. His dad's best friend, Phil McNeil, called him "Tugboat" because Wilkinson was running so slowly around the bases that the only comp was to a slow-moving craft designed to pull larger ships.

I saw Winston-Salem's last Roch Cholowsky-free game vs. the Brooklyn Cyclones this afternoon. Trying not to be annoyed either the assignment or the schedule didn't work out. Cyclones won 6-5.

Newly minted White Sox fan here (broke up with the Yanks a few years ago). This team is more fun and likable than you can imagine - welcome aboard. I love Antonacci best, but pretty much everyone else is tied for #2. My Mets people mock me but I'm the one who is loving baseball this year.

My NYC baseball people are snoozing on how much fun this team is, and it's their loss. To be fair, they are all either traumatized Mets fans or recently baseball-divorced from the Yankee fans who are lost at sea (me, before WBC). I proudly bandwagon, thank you for welcoming me on board.

Clues 5-6 (2/2)
Clue 5 of 6: I often quote this former mayor who said "If you agree with me 9 on out of 12 issues, vote for me." If you rearrange 12 out of 12 letters of this location adjacent to a bridge named for him, you get A RAP MAY WALTZ (and yes, you get to see a psychiatrist).Clue 6 of the Mamdani scavenger hunt (special guest appearance by Max the dog below the sign): One of my favorite cafes shares the nickname of my favorite mayor of all time. And don't worry, they always remember to bloom their coffee. Travel to another borough to this cafe to end the hunt!

Clues 1-4 (1/2)
First Clue from the Mamdani scavenger hunt: "He was fresh and everyone else was tired" - whether from running against him or running on this track named after him, who's to say. Clue 2 of the Mamdani scavenger hunt: We disagree with this former mayor on mos things, but we're happy to be in the same boat with him on free public transit. Meet us outside this Manhattan terminal where you'll find the City's shining example of free transit.Clue 3 of the Mamdani Scavenger hunt: I am a member of NYC-DSA, but I would not be the first member to be elected mayor. Find your next clude at the building named after the man who was. You'll be doing us a really big favor. Clue 4 of the Mamdani scavenger hunt: Eric Adams isn't the first scandal-ridden guy to fancy himself a "nightlife mayor." Find your next clue in the park named for the mayor who led this city as it was roaring, before it all came crashing down.
