Do you have the Merlin app downloaded? It’s done a pretty good job for me even with terrible photographic skills

I don’t think my cousin’s intentions were genetic in nature, but posting a dating profile picture of himself covered head to toe in paint after a backyard gravity painting session was certainly successful

I deeply sympathize! If you want to check the box, models like BERT are in play.. my response would be something like “language heuristics are far more regular than sequential visual sampling and can be trained using written text, on the other hand measurements of gaze require individual sampling”

Congrats! Interested in reading it.. any idea when the digital edition comes out (due to family sharing reasons, am mostly looking at iBooks)?

Current sample size is small, and use cases require extensive screening, I would love that this works and could be deployed to the global south at scale when the cost decreases, but not ready yet

As someone who has been prescribed modafinil for non-24, it does keep me awake, but distinctly lightheaded.. the idea that it’s some magic productivity sauce is vastly overblown

US copyright law is insane.. the Sonny Bono act of 1998 retroactively extended copyright.. while the supreme court ruled that works once in the public domain can’t be pulled back, I can totally see how Amazon lawyers are trying to limit potential liability.. the activity is sociopathic nonetheless

I’ve used (in prep) in two circumstances: 1) The work has only been orally presented by senior authors in more general talks (my SCN work) 2) There have been multiple presentations that addressed particulars of a larger project and don’t capture the full scope Not sure how preprints solve that

A ‘reasonable degree’ sure, but that doesn’t mean anyone can be a mathematician just like it takes a certain talent to be a philologist.. I hit my ceiling in Math in graduate level algebraic combinatorics, and I can tell you that there were a few people in that class who were more talented

If you have more specific questions I’d be happy to answer them.. I’d start by contacting a youth hockey program (especially if it’s community oriented like North Park in NYC) and ask them to give you their parents introduction to the sport

I know plenty of scholars who have organized shelving strategies, mine has two constraints: heaviest stuff goes at the bottom, the rest is free association.. my time needed to find THE BOOK is if anything, a bit better

As Bob Sekuler pointed out to me during my defense, the EDR two object cueing task is also terrible, and that he with Ball had invented the UFOV task 5 years before my earliest citation (an aspect of clinical and scientific literature not co-citing) we’ve replaced RDKs with RSVPs, with some success

I agree, more often being the cyclist.. but this is over a mile without side access, so nearly all the pedestrians are solo runners or walkers.. one issue is even the e-bike Citi riders (who are capped at 25mph) are getting passed by people going 15+ faster

Nico Foley @nicofoley.bsky.social · 09/08/2026
This is not a street, it’s a -12ft wide path with 4ft north and south bike lanes and a 4ft pedestrian lane nearest the river.. walking on a shoulderless road against traffic is a perfectly acceptable experience

Nico Foley @nicofoley.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
I recently walked down the bike/pedestrian path from 125th to 100th on the Hudson, and was more unnerved by the 40+mph e-bikes and scooters than I was riding around Boston on no-shoulder roads for five years

I was more thinking of the sequence of teams.. and at this time of the season I look at the standings more than the score (also, somehow Spectrum decided that it was a good idea that I can’t watch the Yankees without a special subscription to the mlb streaming, so I don’t follow the games 😤)

So a neural network that has a world model is by this definition incurious? Then how did the world model form? By design fiat? Or is the idea more along the lines of ART where a model has Lyapunov stability and can’t forget its experience?

You have almost as terrible a set of rooting interests as my dad, who grew up a Phillies fan in the 40s and 50s, moved to the Red Sox in the 60s, Giants in the 70s and Mets from the late 80s.. combined winning ~.440 per AI.. luckily he brought me to my first baseball game at age 2, at Yankee stadium

Not ADHD so far as I know, but I dread sleeping into alarms so it’s really stressful.. if I wake up early I usually try to eat some food, drink some water and avoid screen time, and try to get back to sleep.. lack of water & early waking is definitely correlated

Way too tame! Meet the Telegony (another part of the Homeric Epic Cycle).. and I’d love to see interpretations of all the great 5th century playwrights (if one does Aeschylus, you can even include the battle of Marathon totally gratuitously!)

The two best mayors so far in my life have been Dinkins, who brought a serious crime problem under control and Bloomberg who broke the car lobby, both of which took several years.. Mamdani seems so far to be the opposite of broken windows, finding small things that make life better regularly

It isn’t particularly accurate but it is super-powerful, that the most literate regiment in the Union Army was used as cannon-fodder.. they did not finally win the right to become equal combatants until the wage was equalized in 1864, back pay iirc waited until the 20th century
