Abandoned terraces above Locarno, Switzerland. As the new forests take over old dry-stone walls, the remaining of dead chestnuts still mantain some protective function. Land abandonment here means changing landscapes and unstable slopes.
Old dry-stone terrace wall in a chestnut forest near Locarno, Switzerland. Tree roots and remaining of dead trees still contain collapsed stones, with exposed soil and fallen leaves suggesting ongoing erosion on a steep slope.
