The latest installment of the BALLDOMAONCU, “Animals” — in limited theatrical release and streaming on Netflix Friday — is a so-so kidnapping thriller.

People can bemoan the "family" element of the "Fast & Furious" movies, but MATCHBOX: THE MOVIE shows what they'd be like without it: inside the box and trapped there. My review of the Apple TV film at Midwest Film Journal (midwestfilmjournal.bsky.social). midwestfilmjournal.com/2026/10/08/m...

Matchbox: The Movie
Bemoan the emphasis of family in the “Fast & Furious” films if you must, but the low-gear “Matchbox: The Movie” shows you how those films would be without it — inside the box and trapped there.

Completely fair. His latter two films are assy enough to render my defense of the first one mostly useless. But lest we forget: They backed up the money cart to Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum to star in one of those turds, too — one that focused more on locusts of all things than dinosaurs.

It's generally nastier, although it has a pretty low body count after the first act because it quickly winnows out the supporting characters. I am a "Jurassic World" apologist, so it's still my third-favorite film. But honestly, there are only three good ones anyway.
