that's fair but IMO movies should be good the first time

I loved Digger (movie of the year, etc) and feel comfortable saying Megalopolis was a piece of crap. I saw it opening weekend and the whole audience was laughing at how bad and stupid it was

this isn't even close to what Anthropic said, but it's fun to lie on the internet!!

yeah I didn't say it was Linux's fault

Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 09/10/2026
I mean, sure, but lots of people put up with that cause they want to play the games...

Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 09/10/2026
the real argument is that some games still don't work on linux

how does this effect my investment portfolio (PS3 with PT still installed sitting in my closet) long term?

new GI Bill means anyone who spends at least 4 years in the armed forces gets $20/mo in Claude-bucks for free

I mean I *also* work on complex ai processing pipeline stuff, and it's definitely different than reviewing normal CRUD work, but same basic pattern. Look at the PR and have claude focus on certain areas, make some artifacts to visualize changes, etc. But I'm basically never reading code anymore.

if it's just frontend code you can pretty much approve after asking claude "this look ok?". Otherwise you can spend 5 minutes asking for a more detailed review on certain pieces. gotta go fast tho

everyone should try not being stupid for 24 hours

1) that is not really a relevant response to what I said 2) I think a lot of people would say it would be nice if open source devs can pay their bills by working on open source stuff

Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 07/10/2026
Mozilla makes most of its money from Google paying to be the default search engine in firefox, right? either way, it's *possible* for *some* open source projects to survive based on donations, but it certainly doesn't always work that way
100
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 07/10/2026
and you don't think this is an attempt at creating a more sustainable revenue model?
120
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 07/10/2026
donations and patreon are the same thing. and charging for direct support doesn't really make sense with this type of end-user software. So it's basically hope that people donate? That's the only way?
120
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 07/10/2026
what's an acceptable way for open source developers to try to fund their work?
240
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 07/10/2026
it's pretty common for open source projects to offer some subscription options, it's called "open core". if you don't want their garbage AI subscriptions included, it seems to be completely free. haven't really looked at this software tho, maybe it's crap, but not because they have a 'pricing' page

ai can still check things "deterministically". an agent non-deterministically decides which deterministic checks to run.

I always call my AI "buddy" or "big dog" or just "dawg". What do you call yours?

the only way to develop a sense of direction these days is to play videogames with the map disabled (or at least ones that don't give live position on map)

if the clouds were getting demonstrably smarter every couple of weeks I would think it's time to start wondering if they could one day be conscious, yeah
000
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
you are moving the goalposts so hard. I don't think you can read tbh and you're arguing against things I never said. Have fun out there!
100
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
my claim was that it's stupid to be absolutist about what can or cannot possess consciousness. tbh I think it's a pretty solid claim. your claim is that cells and only cells produce consciousness, and I think you are delusional if you think you can prove that.
110
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
lmao dude you are the one trying to prove you know how consciousness works, not me
100
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
you've proven that consciousness comes from and can only come from cells? that's amazing!!! surely you will win a Nobel prize for this!
100
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
you should run to the nearest university and let them know you've figured out consciousness! they'll be very impressed
100
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
lol
000
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
I didn't say the computer does this. I said it's stupid to say it absolutely never could. You're the one trying to prove something here, and there's no way you could do it. Nobody knows where consciousness comes from!
100
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
I doubt you can prove that some specific inner working of a single cell is the differentiator that allows for consciousness. I don't think you can be sure that consciousness could never arise from non-biological entities.
100
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
no. the point is that you have no idea what gives us consciousness! no one does!
000
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
yes I agree that there might come a time when machines could be considered conscious. glad we agree.
100
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
which one of those things gives us consciousness?
200
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
ok well "never" was the whole thing I was talking about. I have no idea how far away it is. Wouldn't be completely surprised if it's within my lifetime but def wouldn't count on it either.
100
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
what do cells posses but computers never could that enables consciousness?
200
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 03/10/2026
I do believe that consciousness is a whole-body emergent phenomenon. Why do you think machines will never be able to have that? What is the actual *thing* that living tissue has but inorganic material doesn't that enables this?
100
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 02/10/2026
used to subscribe to 404 but honestly they are too stupid and audience-captured. this is bozo stuff.

oh wait I kinda forgot the pope's whole deal. I guess he basically has to think that
010
Nick Reynolds @nickreynolds.online · 02/10/2026
believing that it's 100% impossible for a machine to ever be conscious is kinda stupid tho

my software engineering job has gotten so much more interesting since claude came around. I get to spend pretty much all my time on the interesting hard problems and none on the boilerplate shit. loved you on Chamber of Reason btw
