It's been a while since I've listened to Current 93. I used to listen to them all the time in the mid-00s. But seeing them yesterday was a trip. Always is (great memories of seeing them back in 2007 and 2008 too) and the set list was close to perfect. Going to revisit the classics next week.

New Jon Collin LP - "Works". Here in the test pressing edition (is the cover art on this version a tribute to the self-titled Un LP released 30 years ago?).The music keeps the promise of the title - it works,and it does so in a wonderful way. Beautiful pastoral drones and free auditory landscaping.

Diving into this recent reissue of Steve Gunn's first solo album. Originally released on CD-R back n 2007. Now available on LP and CD. Great stuff of course, with rich textures of acoustic drones and deep 4-track psych-folk guitar improvisation.

Sunday listening. The No-Neck Blues Band – First Kingdom Of The Ghost. So The No-Neck are back playing live. That's truly great & what the world needs. I got hooked on their excursions some 20 years ago through the blogosphere, the link might have been John Fahey,weirdly enough, but I don't recall.

So a month ago my co-worker was joking about inviting Will Oldham for her birthday party since he was in town. She wrote him a letter & well...he & the band showed up played 3 songs. Blew my mind. And then they stayed and heard the last band playing, which I was part of. I don't know what to say.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. Last night I dreamt about a girl I was unhappily in love with when I was 17. My soundtrack for that was The Queen Is Dead,which I now realize came out a few weeks before I was born. I woke up today & completely tapped into that feeling of unrequited love. So weird.

Sad to learn that Lee Underwood has passed. Very underrated guitar player imo,who could go from playing rather unspectacular things to something completely brilliant within the same minute. A responsive musician who could find the right balance in giving and taking space in a band's soundscape. RIP.

At the end of the last year I studied jazz guitar, I was confused & felt like I still couldn't really play jazz although I rehearsed 6 hours a day. My teacher then played this album for me & I was like:"Why on earth haven't I heard this before?!This is the most exciting jazz guitar I've ever heard!"

Dusting off my guitar playing as I have some concerts coming up this week & the next. I sometimes feel I was too sloppy to ever be or become a real technique guitarist & too schooled to be a self-made explorer, but I guess I fall into both categories anyway. Not that it really matters of course.

Tom Carter - Shots At Infinity 1 A while ago I realized that I needed more Tom Carter records. I asked an expert/a friend and this was one of her recommendations. Halfway through the album I am completely transfixed by just how good it is. A singular and focused vision of sound and guitar playing.

Went to see Fred Frith playing with Lotte Anker and Liz Albee tonight. They are of course all masters of concepts/praxis of improvisation. I noticed how they found ways to quickly abandon conventional melodic territories & sense of root notes when they came near those,

UI - Sidelong Spending some time in good company with this funky post-rock band from NYC. Active from the mid-1990s to the early 00's they seemed to dwell on some of the same basic auditory starting points as Tortoise, but leaning towards a bit funkier and jammier realms. Pretty cool stuff.
