But the politicians believe they can't touch Prop 13, that's its a 3rd-rail issue. If you put it to a ballot initiative (another weird California thing), the property owners would rally to defeat it. Really, it's another microcosm for everything wrong with America, & why we might fail as a country.

Prop 13 doesn't just affect people who are trying to buy a home either. It affects new construction, the rental market, NIMBYism, racial segregation, education funding, homelessness... I mean, I'm pretty sure my morning coffee would taste better if not for Prop 13!

If you don't know what Prop 13 is, it's a law that froze property taxes in 1978 +2% annually, unless the property sells. It's the BEST thing if you've owned a home here for many years, and it's the WORST thing for EVERYONE ELSE.

Can nothing be done? Lived in California since 2011 & while overall think it's wonderful, the one thing that I've been absolutely perplexed by is Prop 13. It's the worst thing about CA & everyone just accepts it, & almost every other problem with CA is because of it.

I have my own little test to see where a.i. is at: I ask it about first crack and second crack during coffee roasting. It’s one of my favorite questions to ask because most coffee experts can’t actually explain it, and I wouldn’t expect a chatbot trained on online info to get it right.
