iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Proven serial liar Johnson accuses others of lieing. Who should we believe, I wonder?

Nick Ashton Photography @nickashton.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

Utterly appalling. I wouldn't be surprised if it's pay-per-view too and the money goes to one of the Orange Atrocity's companys.

Lovely to see you both yesterday; safe journey home.

Creating an interesting image or video using AI is one thing (although that should be clear especially in a competition), but potentially influencing scientific interpretation is entirely different. However, image manipulation in science has been an issue since the advent of digital processing.

I'd be shocked, except that this is exactly what Derbyshire County Council last year. Oh, and now they're cutting services too.

If 40 drops of blood are required for 1 drop of semen and the average ejaculation is 3 mL (range 1.5-5 mL) that means you need 96,000 meals every time you ejaculate. Makes you wonder how much porn stars have to eat!?

Nick Ashton Photography @nickashton.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

Medically 1 drop is taken to be 0.05 mL. On average blood volume is 5 L or 5,000 mL, so if 1 drop of blood requires 40 meals that means we need 4,000,000 meals to make 5 L of blood (bear in mind red blood cell lifespan is 120 days).

Err, where do you start with nonsense like this? How about everything written here is absolute rubbish.

Good point; I have always wondered why this essential service was not funded by government but I can see why charity status gives the RNLI flexibility that it would not be afforded if it was paid for centrally.

Rather than do the '10 bands you've seen live' thing (because I've seen hundreds and can't decide which 10 to list) here are the 12 bands that I will be seeing and photographing today.

Are you sure it wasn't the tin foil hat that turned you magnetic? And yes I know that tin is not magnetic, but neither is a swab whether it's to collect a sample for PCR or to clean out your ear.

I probably looked stressed as I was rushing to get my connecting flight, but I'll take friendly!

It was just weird. It's not like I was the only Brit they had encountered!

Nick Ashton Photography @nickashton.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

Odd aside: I was once asked at US airport security when transferring to a new flight what the difference is between the UK and Great Britain. I'm not sure if they thought it was a way to tell if I'm a terrorist or if they genuinely wanted to know. They let me on the plane though.

But you do more than most to support live music instead, plus you buy music from the bands so they receive more money.

Nick Ashton Photography @nickashton.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

I never stopped buying CDs and vinyl. I prefer a physical product that I can actually hold rather than an empheral download that can disappear at any moment. Buying physical media also puts more money in the artist's pocket rather than a tech company's coffers.

I'm retired now, but was an academic in the life sciences so the norms for my field differ. However, h-index, g-index journal impact factors, journal quartiles etc when considered together give an idea of someone's status in their area.

His citation numbers are certainly good, given how recently the papers were published. It wouldn't have been difficult to look this up and compare with others working in the same field.

So a US born child has more than 6x the number of injections than a European child, yet they still can't prevent stupidity.

Yes. The only aspect of my work where AI helps is in removing objects when editing photos, but the non-AI removal tools work too so I'd survive.

Yeah, but apart from the nanopathogens, 5G signals and brain explosions what have covid vaccines ever done for us?

Nick Ashton Photography @nickashton.bsky.social · 30/07/2026

I've given up arguing with these numpties as they are always convinced that their 10 mins of Internet research means that they know more that experts in the field. As a physiologist with 40 years experience in academia I think that I may have more insight than some conspiracy nutcase but who knows?

Should you be encouraging people to take any form of stove/BBQ into the countryside when there are currently so many wildfires that have been caused by irresponsible people leaving disposable BBQs and camp fires smouldering when they go home?

Nick Ashton Photography @nickashton.bsky.social · 23/07/2026

He needs to learn some gig etiquette and respect for others. Always get there in time for the support act - you may discover your new favourite band. Don't push in front of people; they bothered to turn up on time even if you didn't. Shorter people have the same right to see the band too.
