There’s an excellent story over on The Athletic about mid-70s #ncfc center half Tony Powell: www.nytimes.com/athletic/765...

SOLIDARITY! On International Coffee Day - and every day - farm workers stand with Starbucks workers in their struggle! Just like many farm workers, @sbworkersunited.org is fighting back against greedy employers for the contract they deserve. #NoContractNoCoffee

In the world, they shouldn't have to do it alone. I’m proud to stand with working people to #BoycottStarbucks until baristas win a fair union contract. I’m committing to have a Starbucks-free campaign and office to support union baristas!

How much has MCFC’s CL performance since their cheating started contributed to the PL’s coefficient awarding a 5th slot in the CL? Is it possible that the clubs that were wronged weren’t Villa or Spurs but someone in La Liga or Serie A?

One silver lining is that defense can generally be coached and organized. I don’t think we’re in a situation where our players are too light/technical and are getting bullied everywhere. So yes, this stuff is fixable. #ncfc

It is bizarre, but I don’t think there’s anything you can do about those types of contact injuries. FWIW rotation isn’t to prevent this stuff, it’s to keep guys from pulling hamstrings or just being too tired to play well. #ncfc

All players eventually lose their legs. Kenny is the 1 key player in our side who’s at an age where his pace could drop quickly. I can’t prove it 1 way or the other, but the coaches have the relevant data. If he has, then it’s up to PC to either change KMc’s role, or replace him (Wright?) #ncfc

I tend to agree with you. If I were a tactics expert, I’d compare last seasons heat maps to this seasons, both wing and no 10. PC’s teams have had a rep for struggling against packed defenses, & he’s talked about wanting everyone in on the goal-scoring. Maybe he’s overcompensating? #ncfc

Similar questions on defending in space: are those players not doing what they’ve been told to do, trying to do what they’ve been told to do (& failing), or doing what they’ve been told to do and co ceding anyway? #ncfc

Decision-making and execution: many of our turnovers seem to happen on attempted slide-rule passes. PC definitely wants us moving the ball faster and more aggressively, & we’re attacking well. Are those TO’s good decision executed poorly or poor decisions? #ncfc

Nick Alpers @nickalps.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
Scheme: are this season’s “true wingers” leaving too much space behind them compared to all the non-wingers pressed into service last season? If so, does PC sit Musaba or Brooks in favor of Schwartau or Makama (or Crnac)? Or just get them to play less aggressively? #ncfc

Nick Alpers @nickalps.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
I don’t think that our players have mysteriously become much worse than they were last season (eg McConville, Córdoba, Mattsson). There are 3 elements do a defense: scheme/setup, decision-making, and execution, and PC has to be looking at all 3 elements here. #ncfc

The defending has been absurd this season but this is nothing like last season. Under Manning we scored 14 Champ goals. Total. And he was our gaffer til mid-November. This season we already have 16 in about half as many matches. #ncfc

I suspect that this isn’t down to just one player. JC has rotated a fair amount (including the back 4) and our defense tends to looks the same whoever is on the pitch. #ncfc

Why did Bolton leave McConville so free to score off a corner? Because Makama absolutely bulldozed the two defenders in front of him as Schwartau’s cross came in. #ncfc

Is “Time Song” the last song from this period that the band officially released? I just double-checked - that was 8 years ago. Those 2 Ray compositions for “Where Was Spring?” just showed up on Youtube, and I think Ray had something to do with that? But AFAIK those aren’t official releases.

Everything from Face to Face through Muswell Hillbillies is fantastic (including the 30 or 40 songs from that time period that they never released or ended up as singles only). And I’ve begun to come around on counting Everybody’s in Showbiz in that run, as well.

Sure, ethics, psychological damage, etc etc…the real flaw in the Stanford Prison Experiment was that they didn’t film it and broadcast it on network tv at a huge profit. Thank god that Netflix is finally correcting that oversight!

Oh, good point. And McConville was pressed into service at FB a couple of times last season. Don’t think we’ve seen PC put 3 CB’s and 2 FBs on the pitch yet, have we? For longer than a few, closing minutes I mean. #ncfc

Forgot to mention it earlier, but PC is showing a lot of confidence in Chrisene today by taking Yongwa out of the squad. Fisher would’ve been the backup LFB so after Stacey came on either Chrisene plays the full 90 or we see…Field? #ncfc

At some point KMc will slow down and need to step back. That could be this season. Mattsson’s performances are a little harder to explain. The biggest change this season I think is having 2 pacy W’s. Could be that we don’t have the numbers in MF any more to help the CM’s control possession? #ncfc

I honestly don’t think that PC’s squad rotation has been the issue here. Would Kristgaarden at 9 or Schwartau at 10 have prevented any of those goals? PC hasn’t changed any of the back 4, or Mattsson/McLean, today. #ncfc

TBF we didn’t play that way at Bramall Lane, and for the most part we controlled things at Stoke as well. I think this group will be better against a good side on the road conceding possession and playing on the counter than they’ll be holding the ball to calm things down. #ncfc

I think you’d be one of very few to feel that way. He won Young Player of the Season in 2024-25 and finished 3rd in the Barry Butler voting last season behind McLean and Mattsson. And there were no signs of the club looking for a new RB this summer, so PC and BK think he’s good enough. #ncfc

Fisher has been very, very good for the last 2 seasons, though. Players generally don’t suddenly forget how to play well at 22 years old for no reason. Poor fitness seems unlikely under PC. Injury? Something else? #ncfc

Everyone seems to agree that Fisher and McConville have had disappointing starts to the season. Which goes along with all the goals and chances we’ve been conceding. My question is whether they’re both just playing poorly, or if PC has changed tactics & exposed them a bit #ncfc

What 9/11 showed is that Osama bin Laden understood the US would tilt into madness after an attack. And we did everything possible to prove him right. We dishonored the dead, made our country crueler, and started wars that killed up to a million people. That should also be what we remember.

I think that our 2nd goal probably had equivalent xG to Brum’s goal. They were almost mirror images. But our 1st probably had a much lower xG than Brum’s ridiculous miss on the counter late in the 2nd half. Overall though, I agree I thought that looked like a legit 2 goal performance for us #ncfc

Realizing the extent to which this is true wildly changed my opinions about how to deal with Trumpism, since they're never going to be satisfied unless they're actively dominating everyone else. You can't give them some concessions and go back to the status quo: they're reactionary revolutionaries.
