Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 20/02/2025Absolutely. It's a good example of someone of privilege having the resources to get "sober" but (seemingly) little or no ability to learn from his struggles and grow in healthy ways. 010
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 20/02/2025RFK Jr. is a fraud and a danger to public health. Pointing out his addiction history is unnecessary and harmful to those in recovery and those seeking it. Just because someone abused drugs in the past doesn't mean they can't have opinions and/or contribute to society. He just happens to be a fool. 170
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 19/02/2025I’m mostly concerned with my clients well being. Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 05/02/2025I think it is a personal taste thing for me. I don't hate guitar solos by any means but I strongly dislike solos/virtuosity that is macho posturing and/or just done in a reflexive/predictable way ("this is where the solo should go"). BC and J Mascis at times fall into those categories. 020
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 05/02/2025I've never been a fan of guitar solos/lead playing myself. Much prefer the simple and weird solos of people like Kurt Cobain or Jonny Greenwood (like the solo on Paranoid Android). I find Billy Corgan's solos to be a bit distracting at times, like they are more in service of his ego than the song. 110
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 05/02/2025This is a good point. I need to listen to his guitar playing more carefully when I revisit those earlier albums. 120
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 05/02/2025Me repeatedly misspelling the album name reflects my level of appreciation for SP. 🤦♂️ Haha. 130
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 05/02/2025I tried listening to MC in the past year or so and couldn't make it all the way through. Ok Computer is great from start to finish (though it's hard to listen to Karma Police at this point). 010
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 05/02/2025I've never considered BC to be a creative guitarist. He's a very skilled guitar player but I find JG to be a much more creative and interesting guitarist. Especially with his use of pedals. 000
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 05/02/2025I'm somewhere in the middle here. The newest one is good but feels like a slight retread of their earlier/better albums. Their live show is still top notch though. Saw them at Salt Shed last fall. 110
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 05/02/2025I think if we are comparing post-rock albums from that time period, it's a classic for sure. Harder to make a direct comparison with all of those bands. I think it does say something that I still play post-rock adjacent music and abandoned my desire to be in a traditional rock band decades ago. 😂 010
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 05/02/2025I personally would pick Ok Computer over Melancholy but this is a very good point. 330
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 05/02/2025Fair enough! I see the more subjective point of "their music speaks to me more" but the argument about depth and musicianship doesn't totally hold up for me. My love for RH really started with Ok Computer and peaked with In Rainbows. If we stick to early to mid-90s output, I can see your point. 110
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 05/02/2025I agree about both of those points. RH isn't as deep as they think they are (Who is really?) but at the end of the day, Billy Corgan/SP wrote a few monster riffs and catchy tunes while RH has written much more interesting and emotionally engaging music for a longer period of time. 110
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 05/02/2025Billy Corgan very much portrays/thinks of himself as an deep and underrated genius. Beyond their stance on Israel, Radiohead at least appear to be thoughtful people and musicians. Outside of the Pumpkins, BC runs a professional wrestling league and willingly chose to be a guest on Infowars. 120
Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 05/02/2025I couldn't disagree more with this take! Haha. Pumpkins made 2.5 good albums and the rest has been mediocre at best. As much as Melancholy is touted as a classic, there is maybe an album worth of good songs and a lot of filler. Radiohead has consistently made good to great music since the Bends. 120

Nick Turner @nick-turner.bsky.social · 27/01/2025Hilarious and tragic take down of the 1930s French Bourgeoisie. I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did but it was layered and surprisingly bold (especially for a film that was released in 1939).
