A terrifying account of being shot down by 158 Sqn bomb aimer, Alan Bryett (from Bomber Boys, by Kevin Wilson, p323) Remembering men like this is part of the reason I’m creating Tail-End Charlie, a solo journalling game of life in Bomber Command. Last 5 hours! www.kickstarter.com/projects/pla...

We had just bombed on the markers and as we turned away we were caught by one searchlight and in a matter of four, five or six seconds about ten searchlights had come on us. We were in this 400 or 500 feet band of light. All of us were immediately blinded; it was quite terrifying. The German fighters above us at 23,000 feet or so were just waiting for planes to be coned. There were a handful of us lit up and they swept down. You couldn't see them coming until they were right on top of you. They fired incendiary bullets into the plane which set our aircraft on fire in six or eight different places in the fuselage and on the wings. The rear gunner and mid-upper yelled 'Corkscrew!'

As we became a flaming beacon more fighters came round and made a beeline for the rear gunner and mid-upper gunner and killed them both. The pilot said: 'Don't bale out' as he was corkscrewing, but the navigator, engineer and wireless op only heard the 'bale out' as the plane was obviously doomed and went out. I went up and sat with the pilot. It was quite obvious we weren't going to make it, but then the terrifying thing was that as the plane twisted and turned we couldn't get to the escape hatch. We were being tossed around in the nose of the plane

Knight Forlorn is on Kickstarter for #ZineQuest! A Soulslike, roguelike story game, it uses procedural generation, rotating roles, and punishing battles to wave tales of a lone wanderer on a futile quest in a dying world. www.kickstarter.com/projects/bla...

Photo of a booklet titled “Knight Forlorn”, featuring a gothic-style cover with a lone armored figure in a crimson, desolate landscape. The tagline reads: "A Storytelling Game About a Lone Wanderer on a Futile Quest in a Withering World."
