Several concerns were shared in the testimony from Drs. Monarez and Houry during the 3-hour hearing. 1) Pre-approve vaccine recs from ACIP without regard to the evidence, 2) Directives to avoid interactions with career #publichealth scientists and to only work with political appointees, (4/n)
Former CDC Director Susan Monarez, PhD sits before the US Senate HELP Committee offering testimony on September 17, 2025.

89% of #COVID19 vaccine-eligible children hospitalized had not received the latest recommended vaccine. Among those children who died, 16 were eligible for vaccine; 14 had no record of vaccination. #Vaccinessavelives #getvaxxed

Another #FungalFriday. Today we have a rapid growing mold on Sabouraud agar. The organism features broad, non-septate hyphae, and some very characteristic structures (image 3). #ClinMicroSky #IDSky

CDC leaders say cuts affect approximately 1,300 employees, or 10% of the agency workforce. So, the federal government is cutting employees when there is a one of the most severe seasonal influenza outbreaks in recent years, increased avian influenza activity, mpox, and Ebola?

Bonus post: This is a figure from a CDC MMWR publication summarizing global measles elimination from 2020-2022. The work of dedicated #publichealth servants highlights the impact vaccination. In the absence of measles vaccination, mortality would be significantly ⬆️. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37971951/
Model showing the effect of mortality due to measles with and without vaccination efforts globally.
