Went on Times Radio to decry the media coverage of the Arday affair, so inevitably the youtube version has about nine hundred hostile comments. But I thought this one - a response to my nine-year-old kid's clay model of Mount Rushmore, which was behind me during the interview - took the biscuit
In conclusion: The statue behind him - the removal of the faces of US presidents (Mount Rushmore) and
their replacement with the faces of "natives" reflects more than anything a DEl activist. Sadly, academia in Britain is no longer the "crown jewel" of our society. It is more of a human sewage
suffused with racism & stupidity.

Even in the 'unipolar' years of the 1990s, US presidents were exasperated by their inability to control the United Nations; the idea of replacing the unruly Security Council with a pliant 'Board of Peace' is really a sign of US decline in the world, not of Trump's strength

Madness for the UK government to get involved in the increasingly unhinged and dangerous foreign policy of the Trump administration, but Keir Starmer seems determined to outdo Tony Blair in becoming lickspittle-in-chief to a rogue U.S. president
The UK Ministry of Defence says it supported US efforts to seize the Russian-flagged tanker in the North Atlantic today, including with RAF
aircraft.
Here's a statement from UK Defence Secretary John Healey: "Today our UK Armed Forces showed skill and professionalism in support of a
successful U.S. interception of the vessel Bella 1 while on its way to Russia. "This action formed part of global efforts to crack down on sanctions
busting. "This ship, with a nefarious history, is part of a Russian-Iranian axis of sanctions evasion which is fuelling terrorism, conflict, and misery from the
Middle East to Ukraine. "The UK will continue to step up our action against shadow fleet activity to protect our national security, our economy, and global stability - making
Britain secure at home and strong abroad."

Pure cowardice on the part of every European leader who refuses to call out the Trump administration for what it is: a criminal and utterly lawless extortion racket which poses a grave danger to the security of the entire world
Stephen Miller, a top aide to President Trump, asserted on Monday that Greenland rightfully belonged to the United States and that the Trump administration could seize the semiautonomous Danish
territory if it wanted. "Nobody's going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland," Mr. Miller told Jake Tapper, the CNN host, after being asked repeatedly whether he would rule out using military
force. The remarks were part of a vocal push by Mr. Miller, long a powerful behind-the-scenes player in Trump administration policy, to justify American imperialism and a vision for a new world order in which the United States could freely overthrow national governments and take foreign territory and resources so long as it
was in the national interest. "We live in a world, in the real world, Jake, that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power," he said. "These are the iron laws of the world since the beginning of
time"

I often think about this Guardian piece from 2011 insisting that we shouldn't equate the Daily Mail of the 1930s - "Hurrah for the Blackshirts!" and all that - with the Daily Mail of today. And I'm afraid I think today's paper is at least as bad, and maybe worse

The media reaction to Trump's plainly illegal invasion/abduction this morning has been mostly shock, but Venezuelan opposition figures with "close ties to the US security establishment" have been boasting about this outcome for months (this from the FT in October)
Vanessa Neumann, a Venezuelan defence industry entrepreneur and former opposition envoy with close ties to the US security establishment, said: "The plan now is a capture of Nicolás Maduro. Capture-kill or capture-arrest and take him out, one way or another." Washington insiders describe a hardening of the government's position on Venezuela in recent months, with Florida hawks such as Marco Rubio, secretary of state, and Susie Wiles, Trump's chief of staff, in the ascendant. Others who negotiated with Caracas earlier this year, such as special envoy Richard Grenell, have been sidelined, at least for now.

From a Guardian piece just after last year's election victory - you can make the case that a supposedly left-leaning government ought to coddle the press barons to get elected, but at least have the honesty to admit that that's what happened here
Keir Starmer has dismayed press regulation campaigners by confirming he has no plans to revive the second part of the Leveson inquiry into the British
newspaper industry. The prime minister told reporters on Thursday that other issues would take precedence: "We set out in our manifesto our programme for action for this government. We've laid that out in the king's speech. That clearly sets out
our priorities and the second half of Leveson is not among them. "I've been clear that one of the purposes of a mission-driven government is to be clear about what we can achieve - the time frame, the purpose we need
to put to it - but also that it dictates our priorities in government." Labour and News UK have declined to comment on claims that he reached an understanding before the election with the Murdoch family's News UK,
owner of the Times and the Sun, to avoid restarting the public inquiry.

I wish the BBC would simply ask Lisa Nandy directly to confirm the widely-reported story that Keir Starmer dropped Labour's support for the crucial second phase of the Leveson enquiry into press corruption in return for Murdoch's backing in the general election
Mr McCann told the Today programme: "It's quite obvious that press barons can meet the prime minister, but the people who have suffered at the hands of
them can't."
News UK, the UK branch of News Corp, declined to comment. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy told BBC Breakfast the government had "ruled
out" a second phase of the inquiry. She said the media landscape was now "very different", with most people consuming their news online. But she added: "I do recognise that action is
needed"
", and said she would meet with Mr McCann. The first part of the Leveson Inquiry was held from 2011 to 2012, in the wake
of the phone-hacking scandal. Its findings were published in 2012, and led to the creation of the industry-
funded press regulator Ipso. Mr McCann told the BBC that the inquiry's second phase had "almost certainly" not happened because he believes that politicians in the UK are
fearful of the press.

After Trump I don't know how you go back to the presidency being even vaguely dignified and not perpetually batshit-crazy
Sedition accusation: President Trump accused a half-dozen Democrats of sedition — "punishable by DEATH" — on Thursday after the lawmakers implored members of the military to reject any illegal orders they may receive. Mr. Trump, whose presidency is facing challenges on many sides, was responding to a video post Tuesday by the lawmakers, all veterans of the military or intelligence community. Hours after Mr. Trump's posts, including one that amplified a call to "HANG THEM," the
White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, denied that Mr.
Trump wanted to execute members of Congress.

Trump was impeached in January 2021 for attempting to incite an insurrection; the Senate was too cowardly to convict him, which would have barred him from running again & spared us the current nightmare, but the claim that the BBC misreported his intention to steal the 2020 election is *fake news*

Truly hilarious that Starmer's best argument for saving his own skin is that ditching him as prime minister would threaten the UK's close relationship with....Donald Trump
The prime minister's supporters are telling Labour MPs they should be careful
what they wish for. They argue a leadership contest would plunge the party into the chaos associated with the final years of the Conservative Party's stint in office which came to an end last year, and install a leader who does not have their own
mandate from the country. They are trying to convince their colleagues that a contest could destabilise the international markets too, and would jeopardise the good relationship the
prime minister has established with President Trump. But others, including some ministers, fret about what they perceive to be the
desperate position the government is in. "It's terrible. He [Starmer] is hated out there. It is worse than it got under
Corbyn. I don't see how this is sustainable until May," one minister said. Opinion polls suggest Sir Keir is deeply unpopular, perhaps even the most
unpopular British prime minister in the history of modern opinion polling. Polls also suggest the Labour Party has commanded the support of no more
than a fifth of the electorate in recent months.

ICYMI the Telegraph's reporting on the BBC bias 'crisis' included the fantastical claim that the right-wing and unabashedly anti-woke History Reclaimed website is a legitimate arbiter either of historical fact or political balance
Executives were dismissive when Oxbridge dons raised issues with 'politically
motivated' programming, internal memo says
By Gordon Rayner, Associate Editor
05 Nov 2025 - 07:00AM GMT BBC bosses were "dismissive" and defensive when Oxford and Cambridge profes- sors accused the corporation of rewriting history to promote a woke agenda, a
Leaked internal memo says. In December 2022, The Telegraph reported on complaints by leading academics that the BBC was allowing "politically motivated campaigners" to present tenden-
tious views of British history as fact. Rather than acknowledging that documentaries on subjects including slavery, colonialism and the Irish famine distorted the truth, BBC executives accused the
academics of "cherry picking" examples. It is the latest in a series of disclosures to come from a letter sent by a former BBC standards adviser to members of the BBC Board that implored them to act on alleged bias within the corporation, and which is now in the hands of the Govern-
ment. Previously, The Telegraph has revealed that a BBC Panorama documentary doc- tored a speech by Donald Trump, making it seem as though he incited the Capitol Hill riot, and that BBC Arabic allegedly downplayed the suffering of Israelis in the
war with Hamas in order to paint Israel as the aggressor. In 2022, university dons who were members of an organisation called History Reclaimed said that documentaries on subjects including slavery, colonialism and the Irish famine distorted the truth about Britain's past through inaccuracy or the
omission important facts. Rather than seeking a balanced view of history from the country's most knowl- edgeable historians, they said, the BBC sought out fringe figures who agreed with
its woke view of Britain's imperial past.

So UCLA's draft agreement with the Trump administration bans foreign students who might criticise the US or Israel, and subjects any foreigners who actually make it to Los Angeles to mandatory training in "free speech and open debate"
Processes will be established to provide that foreign students likely to engage in
anti-Western, anti-American, or antisemitic disruptions or harassment are not recruited or admitted
to UCLA. The Resolution Monitor shall review such processes by September 30, 2025,
and
regularly thereafter. Moreover, UCLA will ensure that the University is not financially reliant on
foreign student admissions or partnerships with foreign entities. The reforms should be made
durable by adoption of necessary organizational and personnel changes. UCLA will also develop
training materials to socialize international students to the norms of a campus dedicated to free
inquiry and open debate.
