My office is featuring a new piece (on loan of course) from my talented wife, @mariedarling.bsky.social
An abstract piece of artwork created with paint and embroidery hangs over a small wood table filled with coffee making supplies. The artwork seems to suggest a landscape without being one. Water, earth, sunlight on bright leaves, the shadows of something hidden.

Riddled with the same small errors and missteps of any of my creative endeavors, but I’m still pretty proud of my first real attempt at furniture. This is a small coffee bar that will go against a wall in my office.
Side angle of a small coffee bar built with cherry legs and a live edge oak top. Close up of a small table showing peg joinery on the legs and a close up of the live edge top. A view of a small coffee bar from above to show the beautifully live edge oak top above cherry legs.

I took a break from work and worrying about the world to build something, and it felt great. I’m going to go ahead and make a habit out of this.

I have constructed some of my most enduring personal philosophies from tacky signs in dingy diners. An example:
An old metal sign with a woman pouring coffee that reads “If you’re not shaking you need another cup.”

The pressure cooker has made my journey from no soup to soup so much shorter. It is the high-speed rail of cooking implements, and in the cold months I am a frequent passenger.

I love the start of a new world build. Shaking off that clear inability to draw and sketching out some ideas that will be comically non-canonical artifacts by the time the thing actually comes into being. The best. #writing #fantasy
Poorly drawn maps of a made up world. Ink on handmade paper. A true insult to the ideas of scale and perspective.

And it's probably a safe bet that no Dem is coming along to save us in this particular category. When it comes to fossil fuel profits the cartoonish evil is pretty bi-partisan - www.fastcompany.com/91187114/oil...

Working from home means being able to make a real breakfast, and if there's leftover rice that breakfast is definitely going to be eggs over kimchi fried rice.
Two fried eggs on a pile of kimchi fried rice topped with Sriracha and green onion.

Is it any surprise Garfield hated Mondays?
A drawing of the death of General James A Garfield. Garfield is in bed, surrounded by the doctors that had spent two months torturing him with their ignorance. He died on Monday, September 19, 1881.

I had trouble sleeping last night and deeply missed my canine insomnia cure, so Bluesky gets a rare selfie this morning. Beorn was the best boy during the toughest hours. So grateful for the time we had with him even if it was too short.
A picture of me snuggling on the couch with the late, great Bernese Mountain Dog, Beorn. I am wearing a lot of beard and a Mental Health Matters t-shirt. Beorn is wearing his sweetest face.

I was one of the first 100,000 here, but am probably in the bottom 100,000 for consistent posting.

I lost my late night writing partner last week, and it has been difficult to work. The words just seem to fall into the well of his absence. RIP Beorn. You were the best boy.

I needed a map to help plot my first book attempt, and since then I've found the exercise useful for almost everything I've written. I'll even sketch out rooms sometimes to help block a scene. Despite my abysmal abilities as a draftsman I find this part of the process incredibly relaxing. #writing

@mariedarling.bsky.social drew some cover art for my WIP, and I had it permanently installed on my arm. As I struggle through this edit it's a visual reminder that I actually need to finish this damn novel. Otherwise, this tattoo is going to have a depressing story. #writing #amwritingfantasy

The dog spent last night on the verge of puking which means I was awake and only on the verge of sympathy. Fortunately for him, he excels at apologies.

I often go to sleep at night thinking about the coffee I am going to have in the morning. This delicious bag of joy has made the problem worse. www.blackwhiteroasters.com
