So, the list of parts left to do is getting shorter (shorter than I realised TBH), but I have to make sure the T1 Micro RDS gets in before the cut. Will be available with regular low mount and La Rue LT660 co-witness mount. Obviously still in progress here

So the Mk18 Block 2 is done, but there isn't much to show beyond what you've already seen (mostly just the clean-up after what was psoted) What IS fresh is the Block 2 FSP, which is my personal preference in the set. It's almost literally just a cut-out version of the standard full-length handguard
152
NIArms Official @niarms.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
The Magic Trick™ about these is that once you know how many rail spaces one of the models of Block 2 rail are shorter/longer, you can literally just scale it to fit. Taken a couple hours to about the Mk18 rail to the same state as the M4s, which took over triple that (including ref double checking)
031
NIArms Official @niarms.bsky.social · 13/08/2026
So I can finally say the main Block 2 is more or less good (Still have the Gas Block and a couple screws to finish it) So there's some obvious finishing touches - putting the screw grommets properly on, the Slipring and screws, and all the rail sections being given the slight chamfer.
152
NIArms Official @niarms.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
Getting through it. Some bits inside and out to go (including the slip ring)

So, Unlike the Knights M4 RIS and M5 RAS, the Block II quad rails are entirely comprehensible engineering pieces, mostly because they weren't specced by committee. Gonna knock through 'em real quick. Also, because I don't think I showed it - TA31/M150 RCO/M4CP with Killflash ARD

NIArms Official @niarms.bsky.social · 23/07/2026
Minus a Killflash/ARD (working on), I'm basically considering the TA31 (M150 RCO) good. Got the RMR mount version and I have the cap retention wire all GTG.

So here's a thing: The ECOS package for the ACOG comes as several variants to mount various microdots. I picked the Docter one because I like the way they look and also NIarms already has one, so suits me fine to not have the extra work. Then I start on the M150 RCO package: Not a Docter in sight.

NIArms Official @niarms.bsky.social · 24/06/2026
Right - That's the ECOS done.
084
NIArms Official @niarms.bsky.social · 17/06/2026
Aight that's the TA01 body done we're done we're moving, we're cooking moving on up et cetera et cetera. Mount to go, then probably one of the ECOS variants( there's 6- I'm not doing them all)

Gonna post it on regular account instead of NIA just because I'm so pumped to finally be back on it. It probably doesn't look much since the last post about it, but it's been a helluva clean-up as parts got merged onto the main body here. Stuff still to do obviously, but it's comprehensible.

NIArms Official @niarms.bsky.social · 23/03/2026
It's taking a while, I know, but I think I've finally got this thing by the hairs of it's scrote. It's getting done.
153
NIArms Official @niarms.bsky.social · 11/03/2026
So, I'm back on the ACOG(s). Threw out like 90% of what I had and started more or less from scratch, and through a slow, portion-by-portion I'm getting somewhere is better. Not "good", because ACOG's are a mess of idiosyncratic asymmetry that make it hard to do at best. Anyway, we're making progress

Very much one of those things where it wasn't looking right until it suddenly did real near the end. Still some deets to go (Scope body indents, and most of the rail mount infra, OTOH) but it's now looking legit.

New year, new etc., Last vestiges of the DIY mentality in US SOF (ironically some of the last in line for the SOPMOD parts) - Fibreglass free-float tube. Initially these were sourced from Knight's Armament SR25s, but eventually they were using everyone's as available (Armalite, Bushmaster, etc)

So after a frustratingly abortive shot at doing the ACOGs and not liking the outcome, I switched to something on the list that was more achievable- Insight VLI-002 (Or 001, Insight seemingly didn't make clear the distinction). The VLI was the first WML in the SOPMOD package, and was mostly a failure

aaand with the Wilcox mount that makes both of the formally adopted Aimpoint mounts in Block 1 SOPMOD - the M68 CCO with the Aimpoint QRP, and the ECOS-N with the Wilcox CompM mount.

Not in any way complete, but here's the first of the CompM2 mounts, the Aimpoint QRP (and lower-third cowitness spacer, which is a separate piece because the maximalist in me once again strikes).

The first M68 CCO - the CompM2 Aimpoint. 3rd of 5 for the Milspec ARs, first of Phase 3. To do: lens caps, mounts(several), the weird rubber sling that went over the adjustment dials, probably a rubber band

Okay, mad season over, and we're back. In a Patreon post I made yesterday getting everything up to speed, I mentioned not having done the Sawback charging handle latch for the Diemaco rifles - I have now corrected that.

Right, with the ambi mag release and the butt pad, we're only short the razor saw bolt latch for a complete C8A2, and if you can imagine the full A2 front for the moment (CBF rendering it) - the C7A2.

Finally, we're getting close to looking like what people think of as the C7 and C8 (the A1 and 2). Diemaco BUIS to go with the Diemaco rifles. Gotta do the rubber butt pad next.

One of the things about the KAC Vertical Grip is that it's phenomenally hard to screw up- both IRL and to render in 3D. Today I needed an easy win, so that's what I'm doing. Almost done. Missing the battery holder and a couple detail tweaks.

That's the SOPMOD done. OTOH I still have to do the M203 Butt-pad because the CAF used them on the C7A2 and C8A1/2 onwards. Time to start working on more accessories

What's good about having done two full iterations of the AR15 carry-handle in the prior years is that I have all the important geometry loops and most details sorted and it's all about reusing and adjusting positions to fit the particulars of the bit. In this case- the M1913 carry handle.

[CS 1.6 noises] Work in Progress. Also, again, the Burden of Knowing has struck me once more. So there's two different Quad Rails that were issued with the M4- The RIS (from 1994-ish to early 00s) and the RAS. The Differences? Small, but enough to be a nuisance. I hate the Picatinny era of ARs.

Isometric front-right view of the Eotech, notable details to see include the Battery Compartment latch and the ARMS throw levers indicative of the Mil-issue 553s.Rear view : collection of button for adjusting the sight. Another thing to note is the cut-out on the interior of the projector housing - apparently one of the tell-tale differences between a legit Eotech and an Airsoft knockoff. 553 Eotech/SU-231 in progress. A little past the block-out phase, starting to get into the details. Not the first one of them I've modelled , but I'm also learning with better refs the ways I was slightly off before.

A little slow over the last week or two due to things, but aside a few tweaks that remain and an optimisation pass - the M5 RAS is done.

the M5 RAS isn't done by any stretch of the imagination, but it least it's starting to look that way.
041
NIArms Official @niarms.bsky.social · 03/02/2025
Okay it's now correct and I want to take you on a journey. By eye here's approximately how out-of-circular the outside profile of the M5 RAS is - Not much. enough that if someone wasn't looking hard it's look good and cylindrical (which is isn't). Why?
3d render looking adjacent to the bore-axis of a cylinder and a not-quite-cylinder (essentially a box that's had a ring of it's edges bevelled to the point that it looks extremely like a cylinder from a distance)

Deliberately not showing a higher profile because it's wrong. In a related note, KAC is officially on my shit list for the design of the M5 RAS.

Okay so this is not the first time this has come up, nor the first time I've gone mad asking myself this question - Is the technical spec measurements for the width of M1913 rails wrong?
142
NIArms Official @niarms.bsky.social · 29/01/2025
So,at least for the mainline Milspec flat-top - embed the Pic rail profile, a little clean-up, done. They really did just make this one dead simple.
