It is with sadness that we note the passing of Professor Forrester Cockburn earlier this year at the age of 91. Due to his outstanding work at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children Yorkhill the library there was named in his honour.

Celebrating #pride month at GRI library
A Pride-themed display in a library shows a table carefully arranged with a selection of books focusing on mental health, wellbeing, kindness, and inclusive workplaces. The books are positioned upright along the front edge, making the covers readable. Visible titles include Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace, Belonging in Healthcare, What If, Better Allies, The Happy Index, burnout, Young Mungo by Douglas Stuart, The Emotional Intelligence Advantage, and The Five Side Effects of Kindness. The variety of titles suggests themes of staff support, inclusion, emotional awareness, and workplace culture.
Behind the books, a rectangular frame wrapped in bold rainbow stripes stands upright against a central structural pillar, acting as a focal point and reinforcing the Pride theme. To the right of this frame is a tall display board featuring a Progress Pride flag design, with layered chevron stripes in multiple colours placed over a rainbow background. On the left side of the table, a small handheld rainbow flag is placed among the materials.
The tabletop also includes informational leaflets, paper handouts, bookmarks, a visible QR code sign for accessing additional resources, and small decorative items such as two owl figurines placed side by side near the centre. A rainbow-coloured lanyard or ribbon lies across the front of the table, further echoing the theme of visibility and support.
The wider environment is an open-plan library setting with overhead fluorescent lighting and a grid-style ceiling. Bookshelves filled with materials are visible in the background to the left, while desks and computer workstations appear further back to the right. Glass-panelling line the rear wall. A seated individual is visible at a computer station in the background, indicating active use of the space. The overall scene conveys a welcoming, informative display promoting inclusion, wellbeing, and LGBTQ+ awareness within a library environment.
