Soggy morning in the garden, everyone is being slow to perk up. 🌱

Large common milkweed plant in front of a lush garden-scape. A monarch butterfly perches quietly on the underside of a leaf, wings closed. A ripening spiky milkweed seed pod is just behind the monarch friend.

Grew asparagus from seed for the first time this year. Took a lot of patience, but look at the baby! 🌱

Tiny thin bright green asparagus spear 🌱 poking out of potting soil next to a longer green shoot.

Zoomed out view of tiny asparagus spear next to larger sprout with crazy hairy foliage at top. Out of focus in the foreground the front of the plant pot has a masking tape label with the words "Asparagus 'coffee can'" in brown sharpie.

Most scenic start to a race I've experienced! San Juan Island, WA

Stretched out shadow of a person on a dark gray gravely beach scattered with driftwood, deep blue skies in the background

Landscape of rolling hills and driftwood in the foreground. Above the scene deep blue sky has scattered low white clouds.

Hello, friend. Silver-spotted skipper on wisteria blossoms. 🌱

A brown butterfly with orange and white markings perches on a cluster of dusty mauve wisteria blossoms in front of a slattwd wood fence.

We can never get our woodpeckers on camera. But these guys are the derpiest.

There is something odd about this stock seedling and I love it. 🌱

Close up of block of little brown sponges holding seedlings. Slightly out of focus but healthy looking multileaved green sprouts surround one in-focus sponge with an odd, funnel-shaped cone of green sprout sticking up.

Sorry, but how are both of these things true?

Lucky to have a friend who does ceramics as a serious hobby and whose "glaze disaster" pieces she can't stand to have in her house I find absolutely delightful.

A heavy, rounded handmade mug sits on a coffee table filled with black tea. It has different shades of cool blue glaze incompletely covering a tan ceramic base that gives an effect of mountains emerging from clouds.

Is it some sort of Karmic joke on all of us that the design zeitgeist these days is pure Dr. Strangelove?

New semester, new office decor! Featuring art from @artologica.net and @sarahmackattack.bsky.social (plus a diff eq exam from 1940).

Three framed pictures on a white wall. Small one on the left has questions from a differential equations exam from 1940 typed on mellowed paper. Larger one in the middle features the Biology is Bigger than Binaries poster and small one on the right is a framed and matted watercolor brain with the words "use your own brain" in block print on top.

Zoomed out version of the three pictures described in the first image, also showing corner of wooden desk and chair for office visitors.

Sand, and snow, and Lake Ontario.

A long stretch of sand reaches towards the horizon where snow and frozen lake meet beneath deep blue sky and a low evening sun hides behind a striated bank of luminescent clouds. Left of center the dark outline of a solitary figure stands framed between sand and sky.

Here he is, ready to meet the world!

A floppy knitted monkey in a striped shirt leans casually against a bright blue blanket.

Toys are my favorite thing to knit because you can see them come to life in your hands.

A vaguely lemon shaped piece of stuffed light and dark brown knitting with plastic eyes.

The stuffed orb has sprouted a muzzle and two ears but still lays helplessly on a cream colored blanket.

Head attached to a body that looks a bit like a tube sock. It has a round brown bottom and a gray tube torso with a lime green stripe.

Long thin legs and arms are partly attached to the body, with many free yarn ends sticking out.

Oh noes we are coming to the end...

A bottle of whiskey with less than a finger of deliciously dark amber liquid bears a (partially visible) cream colored label reading "Speyside distillery" and "aged fifty years". To the left of it, a whiskey glass holds a modest dram, reflecting the light.

A tale of two chickens...

Two eggs sit in silver-colored metal eggs cups on a round white plate. The corpulent egg on the left barely fits, perched with a jaunty leftward tilt, the lip of the egg cup encircling its eggy hips. The diminutive egg on the right is shoulders-deep into the egg cup, and cocked slightly to the right. In the background, a well toasted half bagel and over-crisp bacon add an air of weekend morning to the scene.

Some saltscapes for ya @dcwiertny.bsky.social . With apologies to Leonard Cohen, "there is a crack in everything; that's how the salt gets in"

Crystals of teal-dyed salt are scattered in thick bands across seamed pavement.

A deep pile of rock salt in various shades of blue are piled against the corner of a building, waiting to be carried away by rain or snowmelt.

Bye bye Benjamin Britten, you were a fabulous rose until the RRV got you. 😢🌱

Beautiful globe-shaped deep magenta rose looking past it's prime.

Rose cane covered in deep pink thorns looking obviously different from the healthy green cane with fewer thorns in the foreground.

Late fall garden senescence. 🌱

A golden yellow rose with papery outer petals beginning to shrivel nods down against a dark green background of blurred leaves.

Raspberry pink bowl shaped rose bloom in grayish afternoon light.

Tangerine colored rose whose petals look ready to fall nods in front of a slatted wooden fence.

Dried stalk and huge petal-less sunflower head looms over the garden like a sleepy armless scarecrow.

Finished my sweater to wear today but it's going to be a near-record 81 degrees so I'll only be wearing it in spirit. Slightly modified Cascading Kittens pattern by Claire Slade on ravelry. Could we make November sweater weather again?
