The US is a constitutional republic, that is true. It is not direct democracy. But I do have a voice. I can speak with my representatives and senators. At this point, we are not yet a fascist state, but the GOP is trying to get us there. You have a choice. Vote blue, or you are helping MAGA.

I know coming from someone in the ultimate in group it sounds patronizing. That I haven't lost anything gives me very little authority to direct. I know that the TC is a small portion of society and they need allies because they are few. And sometimes those allies aren't perfect.

It is the garbage theory, if one keeps their garage in a bag, it is easy to dispose of. If they throw it out of their car speeding down a highway, it takes a lot of people a lot of time to clean up. That is what the GOP is doing. Making Dems clean up messes instead of moving forward.

The GOP started this fight because they saw that it was a chance to split the Dem coalition. And it is a potent issue because of how passionate parents can be about their kids athletics. Undoing that takes time.

But I know that minority groups need allies to get things done that benefit them. And to get those allies they have to bring something of value. While I think that the TC is inherently valuable, and fighting for their rights is fighting for everyone's rights, not everyone believes that.

It's true that I am not likely to lose any rights in this, except that when rights are taken away from any group, we all lose. What I see though are people that demand purity of candidates and allies. Without that purity, they are rejected. I don't see that as the way to win now or long term.

That banding together means that there will need to be some nose holding on particular candidates. My Dem Senate candidate isn't perfect, but I'm voting for him to move the ball forward. I'm fighting for what I see as the best way forward for my brother's kid, who is transitioning, to be cherished.

History says that takes time for an outgroup to gain full acceptance. I wish we could do it in one. And maybe, with a big enough margin in November, that can happen. But that will only be the case if those outgroups band together and stand up for each other and be the reason for victory, IMO.

I am not suggesting that anyone should surrender. Unfortunately we are at a place where rights are being taken away. I am looking at this from the position of where we are now, not where I wish we were. Given where we are now, how do we move forward? How do we stop the TC from losing more rights?
