the Apple IIe is Super Mario Brothers. Iconic, genre defining, marked a before-and-after.... but has aged lot and is very rough to modern sensibilities

Any source code is useful anyway

what makes it worse is they are often not qualified to judge the result (since its not their artistic field) so it looks even more sloppy

IIRC the 2D sidescrollers on the Famicom used to be called "action adventures" in Japan. Everything console is Mario with RPG mechanics...

This comparison does not extend to the authors. HP was helmed by a militant transphobe while ST has always been progressive. Discovery seems to have done a great service for representation on screen, at least.

One character has too much importance and perfectly good supporting cast could have given much more important roles.

I have this. Probably only watched it twice 😅

War of the Dead for PC Engine. It's a discount Zelda2 that could have been much better. In Extremis for PC DOS. Janky Wolf3D clone from France with cool ceiling and floor textures. Badly rips off the Alien franchise.

its pretty wild. Takahashi Meijin gets into a fist fight with the Star Solider programmer to get him out of his creative funk 😅

Nah the world has already been shit before, and those writers extrapolated the future from a pessismistic view of human nature

Even among USB controllers and adapters, some are worse than others. There's some latency test results online if you suspect your controller

"Running Boy: the secrets of Star Soldier" (1986) is bad, obviously an ad for Hudson Soft... but it's so bad it's good

it used to be a thing in Paris (no idea nowadays) where there are so many shows/exhibits that one could feel pressured to go to the "right" one during the weekend to be part of the talk about it at work/school/etc...

once I was in a HK supermarket and suddenly realized the backround music they had was Vampire Killer from Castlevania To be fair it was Halloween; but still weird and unexpected. I still wonder whether it was a fan, or somebody did a lazy Google search for "vampire music"
