“Isolation is hard: it can feel like rejection, it can feel real personal. I struggled to adapt. I know I can have a persecution complex, but I also know I’m materially being made surplus.” - Beck Levy thesicktimes.org/2024/11/15/m...

This Trans Awareness Week we're also thinking about how trans allyship can also look like the ways we keep each other safe from COVID-19. What are some of the ways you're helping to keep your trans community safer and healthier?
Title that reads: Being a trans ally looks like: protecting trans people from COVID-19 with a small cartoon trans flag above. This Trans Awareness Week, we encourage you to think about the ways you can keep the trans people in your life and in the wider community not just safe from transphobic harm, but also from physical harm.

There is growing evidence that COVID-19 affects marginalised communities at higher rates, including trans and gender diverse people, however as fewer people and spaces engage in regular protections against COVID, the burden on trans people to advocate for their own health increases.
This kind of allyship can look like:

Wearing a N95-or-higher rated mask in situations where there is a risk of infection, whether or not there are trans people present

Opening up a conversation with your trans friends and family how you can help keep each other safe from COVID or other illnesses

Stay home from work, parties, or other social events if you are feeling unwell or have been around anyone who has felt unwell in the past 10 days

Speak up and advocate for clear air protection and other precautions at LGBTQ+ events, services and spaces.
As we observe Trans Awareness Week and head into the holiday season, we encourage you to think about what an holistic allyship could look like – advocating and fighting for one another’s right to not only exist, survive and thrive as our most affirmed selves, but as our healthiest and longest-living selves too.

What change can you make to improve the safety and health of trans people in your community?
