Excited to see this review out! We explored two complementary frameworks for social learning. MARL is top-down: specify reward functions, watch strategies emerge. IRL is bottom-up: infer them from tracked poses in units of behavior syllables. Together they could close an in vivo/ in silico loop.

Watching other animals fight is very common across the animal kingdom, so it must be highly adaptive! @dextertsin.bsky.social, Jorge Iravedra-Garcia and I explore some ideas of how animals might learn from this experience www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

In vivo estrogen imaging is here! Construct is up on addgene, and lots of other imaging constructs are currently in validation. Get in touch if you want advice about how to set up. We are happy to help! Thanks so much to @alleninstitute.org and @onemindorg.bsky.social for their support 😍

Extremely proud to share @acara333.bsky.social and my new paper, out today in @cp-neuron.bsky.social, where we develop a new fluorescent reporter of neural responses to estrogen! 🔬 paper 📝: www.cell.com/neuron/fullt... addgene page 🧬: www.addgene.org/254753/ #neuroskyence 🧪 1/10
graphical abstract of the manuscript depicting pink estrogen-sensitive neurons with a subset of their nuclei colored in green. These green nuclei represent estrogen receptor dependent neural gene transcription, tracked via the expression of a destabilized GFP with a 2 hour half-life. At top, in green is shown a cartoon of the neural response to estrogen across two estrous cycles, and below there is a cartoon of a mouse implanted with an optic fiber for in vivo imaging.

Want to track the dynamics of estrogen in the brain across long periods of time? New paper as part of very fun collab with team UCLA Ed Van Veen and Steph Correa! We use a specialized optical reporter and show that this is possible and actually very easy! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

This book, read repeatedly under the covers with a flashlight as a kid, made me a scientist of animal behavior. RIP Jane.

Love how this project came together with the amazing @endoeartha.bsky.social ! Have you wondered about the role that testosterone plays in the ability to re-pattern social behavior when you are at home in your "territory" vs away? We have answers for you...

Some ppl are suggesting reviewers take a stand- if the diversity F31s can’t be reviewed this cycle then no F31s should be reviewed. I know none of us wants to slow things down after panels finally restarted, but this seems like the only fair approach to me. Wait till next cycle to consider everyone.
