Monkey see, monkey do: Study sheds light on cooperative decision-making
In a new study, Yale researchers found that marmoset monkeys rely on visual clues and evidence accumulation to synchronize their behavior during cooperative tasks.

How does the brain compile information to then make decisions? The @neuralnandy.bsky.social, Jadi, and @stevewcchang.bsky.social labs show that the brain uses the same conserved algorithm to make complex social decisions (such as to cooperate) as it does to make perceptual decisions.

Canonical decision computations underlie behavioral and neural signatures of cooperation in primates
Successful cooperation requires the dynamic integration of social cues. However, the neural mechanisms supporting this complex process remain unknown.…

Marmosets are highly social, but measuring their social interactions is hard in naturalistic settings. The @stevewcchang.bsky.social, Jadi, and @neuralnandy.bsky.social labs developed a new method overcoming this limitation, and showed that sex & familiarity have an effect on social gaze.

Dynamic modulation of social gaze by sex and familiarity in marmoset dyads
A fully automated 3D tracking framework reveals that sex and familiarity strongly shape natural social gaze dynamics in freely interacting marmosets.

Excited about this new paper where we show that the contextual representation of space is non-uniform at the earliest stages of processing in the primary visual cortex. Remarkably, these non-uniformities mirror perceptual asymmetries in human peripheral vision. www.cell.com/cell-reports...

Super excited about this collaborative project with @stevewcchang.bsky.social and Monika Jadi! We show that marmosets possess an arsenal of flexible strategies they use for cooperation. www.cell.com/current-biol...

Diverse and flexible strategies enable successful cooperation in marmoset dyads
Meisner and Shi et al. show that common marmosets flexibly coordinate with partners using both gaze-dependent and rhythmic strategies. Cooperation depends on active social monitoring and is shaped by ...
