Residents voice opposition to tree felling on railway line
Transport company Network Rail has upset locals by carrying out tree felling on ‘protected’ land.

Network Rail Watch @networkrailwatch.bsky.social · 26/03/2025
Net zero and trees’ carbon capture is ignored. It is essential to monitor NR to highlight their inconsistencies & true practices so they can be challenged. Because when they come to your area, it will probably be without warning, giving you no time to react or protest before the trees are gone.
000 0
Network Rail Watch @networkrailwatch.bsky.social · 26/03/2025
NR biodiversity reports appear to be full of gaps, and it seems NR routinely dismisses the harm it causes to birds in nesting season and protected species. The devastating impact on human health of losing all the greenery and wildlife where they live is ignored.
100 0
Network Rail Watch @networkrailwatch.bsky.social · 26/03/2025
NR talks about biodiversity and has repeatedly denied it wants to cut down all trackside trees, before embarking on plans to do just that on a massive scale. Trees that drop leaves are killed, even where they are healthy, established trees such as Oaks which are in decline and slow-growing.
100 0
Network Rail Watch @networkrailwatch.bsky.social · 26/03/2025
There is a consistent pattern of NR acting without consulting residents and the apologising that this ‘mistake’ (which prevents oversight and resident engagement) happened. Without warning, private contractors appear and chop down everything in their path before residents have a chance to protest.
110 0
Network Rail Watch @networkrailwatch.bsky.social · 26/03/2025
NR is now cutting down swathes of healthy trees and woodland. It is currently clearing 250km of wildlife corridor in Scotland. It is giving private companies money to chop down healthy trees across the country, no matter whether they pose an actual risk.
100 0
Network Rail Watch @networkrailwatch.bsky.social · 26/03/2025
Government guidance (inc the Varley report) was supposed to have stopped Network Rail’s programme of mass tree felling. Charities, communities and the govt told NR not to fell millions of trees. NR agreed to stop. Now NR has reneged on this.
