Unusually warm and sunny weather continues across England and Wales through to Tuesday, before a cold front brings widespread rain and sharply dropping temperatures on Wednesday, ahead of a cooler, more unsettled spell from the Atlantic.

September was the UK's joint 4th warmest on record and looks set to be second warmest globally. Britain holds onto the warmth into Monday or Tuesday before a cooler north-westerly regime takes over, meanwhile Los Angeles faces temperatures near 40C.
