this jenga tower is very difficult! right from the start the tower is about as unstable as a late game jenga tower, and the margins for how it can balance are a lot smaller, so if removing a block even slightly drags the layer above it, it could fall
jenga tower where all blocks are sideways, and bunched together, so from the top it looks like a plus shape

slightly spread apart jenga is pretty boring. its similar to skewed jenga in that blocks are a little easier to grab, but unlike skewed jenga which looks weird and is hard to read, slightly spread apart jenga just feels like jenga
jenga tower, but the blocks in each layer are spread apart slightly, so the blocks on the outside overhangtop view of the tower, showing gaps going down through the layers

skewed jenga is interesting. the way the tower balances is effectively the same as regular jenga, but the skew means the edges have blocks sticking out a lot more, so its much easier to grab pieces
side view of a jenga tower. each layer has the blocks staggered instead of in line, making a parallelogram instead if a square. top view of the tower

this layout is probably my favourite one so far. in this jenga set, a sideways block is about 2mm shorter than 2 flat blocks. this means there is a slight gap, allowing the tower to wobble quite a bit. there are 4 points that are balanced on a single block like end game jenga
a jenga tower, with periodic gaps in its constructiona closeup of a gap. the tower is balanced on a single block, in a T shape, but a block on each side of the T stops the T from being too unstable

@enclose.horse i dont like the shade of red used for the grass in costly walls, its very similar in value to the grass so it clashes visually, which also makes it read as something important. my first thought looking at it is always "oh! a tile i cant place on!" love the game otherwise!

it was a fun challenge to try figure out how to even do this, since its not really obvious how to do this effectively or efficiently, i ended up with this:
Screenshot of a discord message explaining it. it has an attached diagram that provides some visuals. the text is as follows:

the evening algorithm operates on the histogram instead of the image directly, so imagine a 256 256 grid, where each cell can have any value

the first step is to calculate the images levels, so for each pixel, we get its brightness, and increment the value of the grid at (n,n)

the second step is to then even out each row so that the total in that column is even (or close to even). the columns are seperate so that where each value came from can be tracked. see how the total for each column remains the same, but the levels get evened out.

(this is done by picking a random row, and then randomly shifting one of its values up or down to a neighbouring row with a lower row total. we move the value from the column with index closest to the index of the target row's index, so that values wont spread as far)

the third step is to apply it to our image, for a given brightness in the source image, we get the corresponding column, then pick a brightness, weighted by the amount in each row of that column. because the amount in each column has stayed the same, there are exactly enough output values for each input value (theyve just moved around)

the fourth step is to actually not do that yet, since we want to remove noise. so we calculate the median of each column, and use that as the output instead. we can reduce the strength of the denoiser by spreading the values across the quartiles instead of just the median

once its denoised, then we can apply it to the image. if the image has a lot of colors in it, we can then run the solver again without the denoiser to maintain the property that the histogram is perfectly even. because the first step moved all the colors to be near their ideal spot, they can all spread out just as much as they need to, so there isnt much opportunity for a value to end up far away from its starting position

your brightness histogram (chaotic and bumpy) my brightness histogram (nice and smooth, elegant)
a nice picture of some mushrooms. on the side, a histogram shows how much of each brightness level there is.

the histogram is not massively remarkable, going up and down with the occasional peak, as it would for every photograph.the same picture of the mushrooms, but the histogram is now a perfect rectangle, meaning each brightness value is in the image the exact same amount.

this results in the photo getting some weird colours, since all of the dark brown dirt and roots end up becoming bluish purple.

an even histogram is not really a desirable property for an image to have, but it does look cool.

i was randomly looking around on wikipedia and saw this (see page on the great icosahedron), which shows a fractional schlafli symbol encoding that some vertices have different face counts, which while i dont really know how this works, it does seem related :P

for the basic {a, b} tilings, its sorta clear that if a vertex is planar or hyperbolic, then it can continue going forever, but it does now seem surprising to me that the spherical ones are closed, instead of over/undershooting like an {a/b} polygon does (see {a, b} diagram by Tessimal)

heres what i came up with, although note that its incomprehensible as i dont do operator precedence properly ("1+2*3" = "1+(2*3)", and significantly more cursedly, "a(b)+c" = "a*b+c" = "a*(b+c)" :3)

this naturally asks the question: can you calculate anything* by just repeating a single cycling set of expressions one day later, i can confirm that yes, you can (thanks to modulo). i have now computed 3+10 on my calculator, using famously turing-complete language esolangs.org/wiki/Brainfuck 3/3

variables are read in the parsing stage, so there, x is set to the previous answer, and added to its previous value, hence fibonacci to allow assigned variables to be easily used i added multi statement inputs, separated with semicolons. only the return value of the last statement is outputted 2/3
input:
x=2;x=x+1
result:
3

assignment is an operator, so it can be done within an expression this means you can set up something, then hold enter to repeatedly apply it (like how you could do ans+1 then spam = on a calculator to make a clicker game), in this case "(x=ans)+x" calculates the fibonacci sequence! 1/3

e there is the eccentricity, which i choose randomly to be some small value, just for fun. a is the semi-major axis, which is the longer half of the ellipse, this needs to be calculated. it happens that its only based on period, being 3root(period^2) - i also figured this out lol
