A delightful Turkish saying translated into Ladino in Vienna’s Ladino paper El Koreo de Viena 1871. “El azno se fue ala Kâbe, azno se fue i azno torno” The ass went to the Kaaba (on hajj) he went an ass and returned an ass. Hadnt heard it in either language!

2 - Published in 1889 and set in biblical times, Viktor Levi's "La Agua de la Sota, or The Ordeal of Jealousy" was my first dip into Ladino literature. It's funny, melodramatic, like a telenovela in writing. Highly recommend. journals.publishing.umich.edu/absinthe/art...
