Our second incoming staff member is Abby Paulette! Read more about what she is hoping to find in our submissions queue.
Personal profile card showing a young white woman with medium length dark brown hair smiles at the camera. She wears a brown babydoll top with flowers. The photo rests against a gray arch, surrounded by a light blue border and gray shapes. Black text reads: Abby is a Communications Major at Bridgewater State and lives in Marion Massachusetts. She has worked as a staff member and run Bridgewater States’s newspaper, The Comment, in the past, as well as written short stories in her free time. She loves to play video games, scrapbook, and indecisively put stickers on all her appliances.A dark blue background with a blue arch and gray shapes features black text that reads: Abby loves an array of stories but leans towards a lot of fiction. She loves a good thought-provoking and psychological read, including, but not limited to, mysteries, horrors and thrillers, and work with dystopian themes. She also values pieces that advocate for important topics, whether it's discussing anxieties, or the planet, as well as many other issues affecting our world today. She mostly enjoys when authors play around with the unknown and disturb readers with their themes and overall messages.

Meet our incoming staff and learn more about what they're hoping to find in our submissions queue! First up is Emma Jamrin!
Personal profile card showing a young woman smiling at the camera. She has long dark hair in two braids, a tan T-shirt, and a silver necklace. The photo rests against an orange arch, surrounded by an orange border and sage green shapes. Black text reads: Emma Jamrin is a writer and student from the South Shore of Massachusetts. She is currently pursuing her bachelor's degree in geography at Bridgewater State University. When she is not reading, writing, or studying, she bakes with seasonal fruits, finds new ways to fall in love with New England, and is always on the lookout for a map.A tan background with and orange arch and sage green shapes features black text that reads: Emma is a sentence-lover, drawn to stories saturated in emotion, passion, and ideas. You could find almost anything on her TBR, but her favorites are always the ones she can quote months after reading, citing page numbers and chapters. She especially loves it when setting takes center stage, when the land becomes both character and catalyst. She wants each new read to transport her somewhere new and help her understand the beautiful and complex world we live in.

Meet our spring 2026 editorial staff! Kaitlynn Davis is a neurodivergent and queer writer with a love of all things fierce, feminist, and fantastical. Read more about Kaitlynn and what she’s hoping to find in our submissions!
A tan background features brown and red squares along with an image of a young white woman with red-blonde hair looking up into the camera with a slight smile. She’s wearing her ren-faire outfit, which is a white linen shirt, mustard brown corduroy bodice, and two opposing red ribbons on either side of the neckline that start with tiny flowers. A gold neuron sits at the top of a page with red text reading “Kaitlynn Davis” and brown text reading, “Kaitlynn Davis is a neurodivergent and queer writer and student from the Boston area, who after getting her bachelors in English immediately dove into the Bridgewater State University master’s program. With a love of all things fierce, feminist, and fantastical, Kaitlynn adores supporting her community by reading and writing toward goals that enrich our lives and aid in empathizing with our fellow humans. When she is not fighting the mental demons, she’s instead fighting her four cats who are all either begging for treats, screaming at 3 am, or making biscuits into her exposed arm flesh while she’s trying to be productive.” A tan background features a red neuron and dark brown text reading, “Kaitlynn primarily indulges in literature that pulls her out of the normal and plunges her into the fantastical, mysterious, and horrific. However, she’s particularly fond of stories that are meaningful and have something to say about our society, culture, or values. She loves all the good things every reader does; Good writing, story craft, and plot beats, but at the heart of every important story is something to be said and she always searches for the meaning behind the veil. All in all, she prizes the humanity of the authors and the dedication to the craft, valuing any effort put towards writing whether successful or not.

Our editor-in-chief @sfmontgomery.bsky.social is presenting a Zoom writing workshop on “Discovering Disabled Forms and Structures” on Friday, February 27 from 2-3:30pm EST with The Writing Institute at the University of Pittsburgh! The workshop is free and open to all! Info to register in comments.
A yellow background features an image of a pixie haired woman wearing round glasses and a cream-colored sweater smiling in a brightly lit forest. The logo for the University of Pittsburgh rests at the top of the page followed by black text reading, “Discovering Disabled Forms and Structures Writing Workshop with Sarah Fawn Montgomery Friday, February 27, 2026 from 2-3:30pm EST. The writing workshop is a space where power and privilege often demand disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent writers translate their lived experiences for abled audiences in order to be valued. Embodying ableist expectations is an act of erasure that injuries disabled spirits and silences disabled stories. But turning to disabled bodies and minds can be a source of great inspiration and innovation. In this interactive workshop, Sarah Fawn Montgomery will share strategies from Nerve: Unlearning Workshop Ableism to Develop Your Disabled Writing Practice, as well as her recent essay, “Medical Intake for Your Suffering,” to help writers discover disabled forms and structures for creative work. She will then lead participants through a short, low-stakes writing exercise (with no requirement to share) to consider various disabled forms and structures they might employ in their work, encouraging participants to reflect on how and why this approach to writing might tend to both their bodies and bodies of work. This event is part of "Creating a Culture of Access" programming, sponsored by The Writing Institute. Registration is required and can be done through the QR code or by visiting The Writing Institute website. Access questions and requests can be directed to Jessie Male at jem496@pitt.edu.” A QR code sits at the bottom of the page.

Meet our spring 2026 editorial staff! First up is Cassidy Rousseau, an English educator from the Boston area who looks for evocative images and complex characters. Read more about Cassidy and what she’s hoping to find in our submissions!
Green, tan and brown squares make up a background that features a brown neuron along with an image of a young white woman with bangs and long, dark brown hair smiling at the camera. She wears a light grey shirt with ruched sleeves and stands in front of a red, wooden railing with bright green trees in the background. Green scripted text reads “Cassidy Rousseau” and dark brown text reads, “Cassidy Rousseau an English educator from the Boston area. She is currently a graduate student pursuing her MAT for teaching Secondary English at Bridgewater State University. After a long day of teaching and creating lessons that engage all types of learners, she enjoys reading a twist-filled mystery novel and failing miserably at knitting.”A tan background features a green neuron and dark brown text that reads,” Cassidy enjoys diving into genres she’s unfamiliar with, always open to reading stories that she may have overlooked in the past. She is especially drawn to stories that can only be described as having a “tangible atmosphere”, completely immersing the reader in the environment through its evocative images and complex characters. While Cassidy is most particularly drawn to mysteries, she looks for stories that have such intentional word choice and imagery that the reader can’t help but feel the sensations of the narrator, no matter how uncomfortable it may be.

A hand holds a black and white Nerve to Write mug in front of a computer screen featuring a page from the Nerve to Write website with tan and raspberry colors, a watercolor image of two heads in profile swirling together, and text reading “ISSUE ONE Coming Spring 2026 We are currently reading for our inaugural issue and would love to consider your fiction, nonfiction, poetry, hybrid work, and art. Please visit our submission guidelines for more information.”
