We moved from Utah to Chicagoland when I was 14. The queen bee(yotch) of 8th grade noticed I was weird, her minions let me know through targeted bullying helped by faculty. I spent 2 years in 8th grade. The next class was nicer to weirdos. My weirdness has only increased & I couldn’t be happier.

That sounds horrifying. So glad your nightmare will soon be ending.

My female BFF & I have lived together for 25 years. A few years ago we bought a house together. We had to throw out the "3 bid" thing due to how confused grown-ass professionals would get that no men were involved in the process. Now we go mostly with personal recs from other women & LGBTQIA+ folks.

Thanks for the reminder! I’m out in Wilkes where my choices are limited, not to mention how unreasonably early most places close. I saw one of these on 181st between Halsey & Glisan & I am certain any tacos I get from there will heal me.

Revels rehearsals are underway. I did not get either of the solos I auditioned for (boo) although I am featured in an ensemble piece (yay). There is one more ensemble to audition for, which has barbershop style close harmony. Do I try for Tenor 1, Tenor 2, or Baritone? (the bass is too low)

The return of the light after a long period of darkness. If this person thinks whatever sounds & tones & harmonies his plagiarism machine can extrude out of other artists work will somehow supplant the human impulse to create & communicate I am sorry he has lived such an impoverished life.

… by a skilled choir for an audience. All of this because we 50 or so volunteers think it’s important, because we have an even larger community who gathers with us every year to sing & dance with us, to listen & share the very human experience of the turn of the year, the rediscovery of hope…

Music that was written so that it could be played and sung in the home with loved ones, songs that were written as anthems to be sung during labor and suffrage protests, songs that were transmitted across the country before the advent of recorded music, & yes, even music composed to be performed

Where I got together with 30 of my closest friends and we worked on songs that had been passed down orally/aurally for centuries before someone ever bothered to write them down, one that was written by a community who invented a whole new musical notation from first principles…

Not sure whether to be grossly offended by this, or laugh uproariously at the typical lack of understanding of human nature this genre of statement displays. Because I saw it during a break from a choral rehearsal…

Not to be a language prescriptionist, but that is NOT what that verb means when you noun it.
a screenshot of an email header from Cardi Beauty, advertising "The Snatch You Didn't See Coming", with little eyeballs. The first line of the email indicates it's for something called "Snatched Baddie", which I assume is some sort of pigment that will make your cheeks look fashionably sunken.

It’s also fun (in the sense that it’s very much not fun) to actresses who are at most a size six referred to as “plus size” because you can’t count their vertebrae.

I’m wondering what the scripted tour is. Do they tell spooky stories but without the jump scares? This sounds cool, even though I am not into the haunted house thing. I worked at a 6 Flags halloween thing & ppl tried to set fire to me 3X. I wasn’t even in the “house”. Those folks got kicked & hit

I love many iterations of Star Treks for different reasons. Every character on SNW is someone I could imagine hanging out with, but Uhura is my absolute fave. Needless to say, I really enjoyed this episode.

The armrests on the flight back did not fully raise so half the trip lacked the extra comfort we paid for. Also they announced our LHR gate being in another building requiring a tram ride about 20 minutes before boarding. DO NOT fly BA, especially to/from PDX. They suck so bad.

which per their own policy we could pay them $$$ for. When we checked in at the airport the folks at the desk acted like we were trying to scam them despite showing multiple emails, confirmation # for extra seat etc...

BA sucks so bad. Friend & I went to the UK last year on BA, paid for an extra seat for "comfort", a policy clearly explained on their website, only to spend over 2 hrs on the phone w/ppl baffled at the very idea of such a thing & having to explain repeatedly that we were fat & wanted extra room...

When I asked my mom she said in our family you either have a terrible menopause or (what’s the opposite?) & that while the symptoms of peri- & meno- weren’t great, we didn’t get all of them. Here’s hoping those suffering through the opposite enjoy a relatively smooth peri & menopause.

I’m in the midst of peri- after 40 years of whatever we’re calling PCOS & you know what? It’s pretty easy. Other than a lil extra executive dysfunction, for once my periods aren’t Elevator Doors in The Shining bad & I rarely get the ninja death cramps. No hot flashes no more rage than normal.

I know exactly what you're talking about. When I had Covid & subsequent pneumonia my lungs would keep me up at night with an ungodly hurdy-gurdy imitation. Even 2 years later I can sometimes still hear a distant slide whistle tootle from the depths of my trachea. It's disconcerting.

I wonder if the wee little fascists were extra cranky because they had to take the Glen Jackson coming down from Battleground/Vancouver. Hope they got their ya-ya's out, but if not, I'm sure we can supply more dog poop for them.

I really liked it for the first couple of seasons. After that, having the sewists make pretty much the same types of things over & over (& very rarely for a non-standard sized person) it got a little repetitive. But I was binge watching it so the repetition was more obvious than intended.

We also looked for condos in elevator buildings but kept running into really high HOA fees. I just think building more of many types of buildings (vertical, elevator, shared wall, no shared walls, etc) will only help for every situation.

You don't even have to be that senior to need this! My housemate & I bought our 1st house at 50. Her knees don't always work. My ankles are less than 100% reliable. The only thing we could afford in walkable neighborhoods were vertical w/3 flights of stairs. Not doable!

Same. (I learned this at the Tillamook ice cream experience) I like having a scientific reason I can't eat brassicas. For some reason the Brussel Sprouts people refuse to believe me, but I don't care how much bacon you fry it with, I'm still giving an involuntary flehmen response if I get a whiff.

I absolutely CANNOT with the AI crying. It's either fakey open-mouthed, squinchy faced wailing like a toddler, or stoic tears down cheeks, gaze straight at the camera bs. How do people not clock the bad soap opera acting aspect of this crap?

(here is the exact same map, but that specifically calls out Utah - 56%, one percentage higher than Portland, where I currently live.)

The hot spots - California, Utah, and Oregon - are all places I've lived. I've also lived in Northern Illinois/Southern WI (mildly red on the map) and NY (light blue). So I guess NYC didn't "take" at all.
The breakdown of where people speak English the most like me (Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, and San Francisco, CA) and least (New Orleans, LA, Atlanta, GA, and Houston, Tx). Also, "what gave you away" - the words that most strongly link me to Utah - Potato Bug, Drinking Fountain, and Frontage Road.

How is this more convenient than just taking a picture that's added to my camera roll that I can scroll through next time I can't remember where I put my passport? Like I do in parking garages? It just adds needless complication, lack of security & the possibility of random "ai" nonsense?

Why do they all have a dust ruffle now? I like some super-femme looking stuff, but on a short busty middle-aged body, the giant puff sleeve & ruffle thing makes me look like a grotesque Baby Jane.

Didn't they just release a movie about how Robin Hood was actually a murderous asshole? It made like $12 at the box office. I don't think most of us are buying this transparent (public domain) propaganda.

Considering how well that Hugh Jackman Robin Hood movie that was marketed as "You Fools, Robin Hood Was Really A Murderous Piece of Shit!" did, I'm sure this will share the same amount of success.
