Aaahh!!! Real Monsters - the first of several Nicktoons drawings for the Nickelodeon wall in our guest room/home office. It was nice to draw something for fun and to be creative for no reason; I forgot how much I enjoy drawing when there isn't a deadline. #FanArt #Nickelodeon #Nicktoons #ComicArt

Fan art of the Nickelodeon animated series, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, in which the main characters - Ickis, Krumm and Oblina - are running through a garbage dump away from their scary teacher, Gromble, who is yelling at them in the background.

And the dining room. The house was built in 1940, so we'd like to pay homage to that decade (at least on the main floor) in some of our design choices, in the textures, patterns, colors, and shapes of things, while staying true to our personal style.

My husband and I bought our very first home! We moved in on July 2, and we've been unpacking, settling, and decorating ever since. I never imagined myself owning a house or even being able to; it feels surreal. But it's starting to feel like home. Here are some pictures of the living room so far:

Check on your Buffy friends, they are unwell today. Rest in Peace, Anthony Head. You were a father figure for a generation (probably multiple generations) who needed it

Always working on the millennial nostalgia vibes in our home office

View from the day bed in our home office, with our dog boki chewing a treat on the bed. In the background are bookshelves filled with books, comics, and toys from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, including TY beanie babies, Woody from Toy Story, a pound puppy, Goosebumps, and other items.

A view of the day bed with a Pokémon comforter and pillow cases, as well as throw pillows shaped like stars and clouds with rainbows. There are floating neon green shelves on the wall with VHS tapes, toys and dolls from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, including a copy of the film Spice World, framed disney Lithographs, a popple doll, and a large framed print of Hocus Pocus by Veronica Fish.

Now that everything has been approved and accepted, I can share that I successfully defended my dissertation, X-TRAORDINARY BODIES: QUEERNESS, DISABILITY, AND POSSIBILITY IN MARVELS X-MEN! Getting my PhD has been a lifelong dream, and it feels surreal and fantastic that it's become a reality.

Some recent dissertation pages^^ I loved doing the page that introduces Shatterstar; the idea was to make it feel special and slightly otherworldly, then to move away from that world on the next page as he immerses himself in American culture via televsion

"I feel like you’ll take it as a compliment when I say your decor looks like the eccentric neighbor kids in a 90s film have to get information from to save the day" I DO TAKE THAT AS A COMPLIMENT THANK YOU

Sharing some of my old Buffy fan art here because I am absolutely exhilarated at the news of a reboot series pilot directed by Chloé Zhao starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. Like I went into my co-worker's office speechless and crying. I need a full series order!!

It's been simultaneously cathartic and challenging to re-examine my lived experience as I apply it to my exploration of American Culture, in conjunction with a close reading of X-Men comics

I haven't posted on Blue Sky in a while but now feels like an appropriate time to start again! Here are some of the latest pages from my comics dissertation that explores the shifting perspectives of queerness-as-illness in American culture from the 1980s to today

Slowly but surely "eating the elephant," as my friend/mentor would say. My dissertation is taking me a while because of my anxiety/depression/general in/ability to function, but I'm getting it done!

It's Lonely at the Centre of the Earth is incredible. Thorogood is so candid, so vulnerable and self-deprecating, so playful with the comics form. I can't believe it took me this long to read it but I'm so glad I finally did. It immediately went on my shelf of favorite comics. What a powerful work
