#WritersCoffeeClub 15 Oct What's the last thing you read to really impress you, prose-wise? I reread 'Neuromancer' recently, and I just adore Gibsons style. The way he just marches on, not explaining because why would anyone explain anything in the world they live in? You either figure it out […]

When we buy salmon, I save the trims until I've got enough trims to grind into mince. Make wonderful meatballs. No, that implies beef or pork, at least to me. This is fish. Fishballs. No that sounds terrible. What's it called? Patties?
Fishballs?
Image shows leftover trimmings from salmon and cod, ground to mince and shaped into puck-shaped cakes.

#WordWeavers 11 Oct: Share a passage from your WIP where the setting is doing as much storytelling as the characters. This is a passage from 'Management Apologises for the Inconvenience': #thementalmansion
‘Oh! Oh, this one. This one’s a beauty. Hold on, don’t breathe too loudly, it’s delicate.’
They lift a dream that glows colder than the others. The moment it rises from the chest, the air around you cools, and the shadows shimmer as though dusted with frost.
The cloud unfurls, slow and reverent.
You’re standing in a winter night so still it feels enchanted. Moonlight glistens on untouched snow, each crystal catching the light like a tiny star. The trees are coated in frost, their branches glittering as though dipped in silver. Your path home stretches ahead, glowing faintly, a pale ribbon through a galaxy of frozen sparks.
The snow muffles every sound. The cold steals every scent. And in that silence, the world feels impossibly vast and impossibly gentle.
You remember the way your breath hung in the air like a ghost. The night wrapped around you, making you slow your steps, just to stay in it a little longer.

#WordWeavers Oct 7: Share a line of dialogue that tells us everything we need to know about a character's personality. This is from quite early in my upcoming book 'Management Apologises for the Inconvenience': #writersofmastodon #author
“The ghosts are nothing but figments of your imagination, I tell you,’ Prefrontal
Cortex declares confidently and raises their voice a modicum so that they are heard all over
the Mansion. ‘They are fantasies, they can’t hurt any of you.”

A memo rattles through a pneumatic tube clinging to the walls of the office and
materialises on Amygdala’s desk with a burp, signed The Gut Staff.

Bollocks. /TGS

Prefrontal Cortex picks the note up. Frowns, eyes momentarily lost to the ceiling
cornices, contemplating the collapse of civilised memo etiquette. ‘Unfiltered notices?
Really Gut? Didn't we discuss this?"
