nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Are they ' "begging" ' him because they never see him as he's always in the House of Commons? Oh, wait . . . 000
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 06/09/2026The post was highlighting the anomaly of arresting elderly people for holding a placard of a proscribed group with the overt violence in the video clip. What on earth is the assumption she's "one of the proletariat" got to do with anything? 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 06/09/2026To you, of course. I'm sure Jakobson would agree. 000
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 06/09/2026I know that. Your comment was "a girl who's sympathies probably lie with the terrorists", which doesn't reference that particular proscribed group and suggests her "sympathies" may lie with other groups. Also, it's not relevant: the post was about physical violence as a response to verbal heckling. 210
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Why raise at all who she may sympathise with and how is that relevant? To suggest she may sympathise with terrorists in the way you present it, carries a very different meaning to your answer. It's not "reasonable to suppose" people protesting against genocide are terrorists. 120
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 06/09/2026How on earth did you manage to jump to that assumptive conclusion? 120
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 06/09/2026What will "the authorities" do? And what about those of us ideologically opposed to the concept of a monarchy and refuse to sing it or stand up? 000
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 06/09/2026So essentially, he deems it acceptable to publicly deride and condone physical violence as a response to verbal heckling; this tells us everything about the values of Reform and its MPs and where they're taking our politics. 000
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Yes, he does and it makes listening to his toxic rhetoric even more difficult. 010
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Why does the BBC consider him newsworthy? Everything that comes out of his mouth is self-promotional propaganda. Farage doesn't answer (although he rarely gets asked) serious political questions. 010
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 03/09/2026"fellow 'outsider' "🙄 when " 'outsider' " = unscrupulous egomaniac🤑 040
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 01/09/2026What? More like a widespread approval of anything that will boost Farage and his cronies! 000
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Perhaps a starting point for the US would be to completely de-politicise the judiciary and prohibit any presidential or politically-motivated nominations. The SCOTUS decision on Trump's actions in his presidential function seem to have given him free reign beyond accountability. 000
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 26/08/2026I think they actually want to take us back to a pre-unionised oppressed-workers dystopia. 031
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Maybe you should've told me what to say in the beginning. Clearly, you missed my point, but then, navigating through your aggression was perhaps as difficult for you as it was for me. 000
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Really? Nothing I wrote suggested I didn't accept that and I "attempted to be victimised"? So your mordant sarcasm for my friends and me to "enjoy" our retirement and rocketing house values (doesn't help much when you live in social housing) wasn't meant to be taken personally? 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Wow! I thought this would be a debate rather than a personalised conduit for your aggression. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 25/08/2026For the record, as it were, I didn't vote for Brexit, and only ever voted Labour or LD. I think a blanket demographic alone is a little simplistic: everyone I know, family and friends of my age have the same politics. Older relatives differ, although they're a different generation, I believe. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Okay. That comes across as quite angry as though an entire generation is somewhere to the right of Restore Britain. I hadn't realised it was quite so straightforward. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 25/08/2026New to this sort of debate, so a genuine question, why? I'm a 'boomer' and have just retired and my taxes were also going to 'boomers'. Everyone will retire at some point and I, for example, planned my retirement partly around the state pension. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 22/08/2026Well that's good, but does it also mean that if they'd done the same ' "against a sensitive property, such as an arms company" ' the judge *would* have sentenced them as terrorists? That makes no sense. 000
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 22/08/2026Incredibly pompous and self-referential. 020
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Yes, some NHS Trusts require quite a detailed history from parents as part of a referral for this reason; there can be several other conditions where symptoms and presentation of behaviours overlap. 000
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026That's not at all what I'm suggesting. My point there is that the drug boosts dopamine; *if* ADHD is misdiagnosed and *if* extended use of computer games is a factor, then it's fair to question medication. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026I actually disagree with that as a generalisation, but the notion of looking at behaviours (child's needs) and making adaptations to meet those needs (a needs-led approach) is valid, in my view. I do know of a case where a child was diagnosed, medicated and months later, the diagnosis was removed. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026"babble", right. I thought you already had dismissed me. A qualified (MSc) and experienced child psychotherapist explained to me research she'd studied about how and why children can become addicted to computer games, and dopamine plays a part in that. There are numerous papers on misdiagnosis. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026He said he thinks it's a set of behaviours rather than a neurodevelopmental disorder, which is, of course, controversial; my interpretation is that he wasn't denying ADHD, but believes it needs reclassifying. I do think he's right about education, though: our curriculum is too rigid. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026➡️ by boosting dopamine - computer games can do the same. If a child has ADHD, it may work, although there's a reason why it's a controlled drug. If the presentation looks like ADHD but is a different condition, or is a potential misdiagnosis, then does that not raise questions about medication? 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026You don't understand because you've just jumped in with your criticisms. Some of the characteristics of ADHD can be evident in other conditions, for example, Attachment Disorder, and sometimes as a result of environmental issues, and one of the features of the drug in the programme works in part ➡️ 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026You've "explained" nothing at all: making assertions with no evidence or cogent points is not explaining. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026There you go again with your generalised assumptions. I opined the point about questioning the use of medication was valid and you've not addressed that, choosing instead to make empty criticisms. Nor did I accuse you of calling me names, btw, but "doc" and the actual doctor - "quack". 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026So you can't specify your idea of right-wing talking points. I've made no comment about ADHD itself, merely the way it presents and the meds'. I try not to make assumptions, but your facile comments suggest you have little to no knowledge or experience of the condition - if you do, then show it. 200
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026I see. Well despite your assertions, if you can't present an actual argument, it would seem it's you that has no idea what you're talking about. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Right; so you're just 'here' to troll, name call and make assumptive judgements. Why bother if you're not interested in or unable to present a reasoned argument? 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026So a) what "misinformation" do you think I spread? b) what "right wing talking points"? So far, you're just making meaningless assumptions and assertions, how about being specific? 200
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026I've not read the DM and I'm giving my opinion. If you disagree, perhaps you'd have a more cogent and relevant argument if you were to challenge respectfully rather than simply make insulting comments and baseless assumptions. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026So you have a different opinion, but you don't respect the opinions of others if they're different to yours. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026I've read them, but why specifically "bigoted"? Where and how are those with ADHD "being increasingly targeted . . ."? The programme presented plenty of unanswered questions, and needed more detail about the referral pathway and the assessment process and tools, but I didn't think it "ableist". 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026I agree there were aspects missing, such as the referral pathway, Connors Rating, QB test, why referrals are not accepted for children under 6, but the generalised message about the manifestation of the condition and questions around the medication seemed valid to me. 200
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Exactly, that's the issue: it's an elected office, so have no contract of employment and no formal expectations as to what they should do, when and how and where they should be. I fail to see why they can't be considered an employee, but I imagine few in parliament would support such a change. 022
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026I don't mean that, I mean telling Pemberton about the child's behaviours when he's not on meds. I've not quite finished watching yet, but there seem factors not fully explained: child's early-life experiences; his own tablet; television in bedroom; plenty of sugary treats - all relevant factors. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026I've just started watching it and my first observation is that they seem to be discussing the child's behaviours and medication etc., in front of him. Why? Because it's television? Far better to keep those conversations amongst the adults. 100
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Ah! Just realised the statement is not written by Pemberton, and I've not seen the documentary. Having said that, paediatric departments won't usually accept referrals for those under six, and expect evidence to show the presenting behaviours are not environmental. 000
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026I'm definitely not a DM reader, but what specifically do you take issue with in his statement? 000
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Presumably, they opposed it on ideological grounds and asked for help from a party with few and shifting ideological values. 010
nell21214.bsky.social @nell21214.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Seems a bit odd, in that a theologian is an academic and not necessarily a priest, and that in either case, you'd expect her or him to point out that both revere the same god. And yes, absolutely, I don't believe Farage wants to be PM, or even an MP, other than for personal gain. 050
