calem leans against the boat and says "My heart was beating so fast I thought I was dying."
Sylvan lifts himself up on the boat and says "Should we do it again?"

Calem laughs and says, "Gods, no! We'd flip the boat." Sylvan leans against the boat and watches him with a fond smile, his tail curling out of the water behind them. Star shaped marks are visible on his wrists.
Sylvan gets back in the water to push the boat and says "Hm. When we get back to shore, then."
The final shot is a distant shot of them in the dark, lit only by their lantern. Calem says "Don't get ahead of yourself."

i've been trying to participate in the daily writing prompts in this discord, so behold. my yaoi [ #secondborn #writing ]

A runesmith had many obligations, including keeping himself fed and getting a reasonable amount of exercise. Once a week, Calem was forced to go downtown to the market for a meal. Since it was only held one day a week, it also made for one of the busiest days to visit the central quarter. He’d been told he could handle one day of crowds if it got him out of his enchantry. He was inclined to disagree.

A flash of blue in the crowd caught his eye, and he nearly tripped. It couldn’t have been…?

Soon as he thought it, he found himself face-to-face with a familiar man, and already deep in the claws of his embrace. Sylvan was nothing if not assertive. He kissed Calem like a man deprived of water, finally getting his first drink after days. Calem indulged him, of course, because he never could say no to beautiful men made of magic.

He’d been gone three months this time. Not his longest absence, but far from his shortest. Honestly, Calem was hurt to meet him here—why hadn’t he come to the enchantry first?—but seeing him at all made the excursion worth it.

“Welcome home,” Calem said, very aware that they were standing in the middle of the street, and also that he didn’t care all that much.

“Don’t talk,” Sylvan growled, and kissed him with even greater fervor.

Calem had to hold back a laugh. It felt good to be missed.

Sylvia and Aster: To Sylvia, Aster is a dear friend, and she named him. To Aster, Sylvia is his first and dearest friend, a kindred spirit, and his one true companion. their relationship is characterized by his insurmountable grief at her death.

Aster and Sylvan: to Sylvan, Aster is a brother, father and jailer all at once. it despises him. to Aster, Sylvan is a brother, one that he regrets awakening but doesn't have the nerve to kill. their relationship is characterized by the endless cycle in which they continue to hurt each other.
