Okay, first day using this and so far it's great. Really like the UX and the BSky integration 😀

It wasn't just one joke it was a whole string of inappropriate stuff that included an incident with Josh Tarling. But it is 100% on the organisers for giving Erola Jons free reign and access all areas considering her track record for stuff like this.

This was not RTVE's decision though, although maybe the organisers were following the same trend. But at least with some RTVE decisions, like hiring Delicious Martha, the person knows the subject and acts appropriately. That is not the case at all with Erola Jons.

So angry about this. Awful to watch & a wasted opportunity. At least Carlos de Andrés called it out live on TVE: "It's disrespectful to women who have dedicated so much time to this profession & no one should have to endure being treated as an object, neither women nor men. I find it unbelievable"

There seems to be an issue scrolling through rider results, for example looking at a rider's 2026 results, it only goes back so far then won't scroll any more (for me anyway)

Thanks, yeah I'm pretty good at switching off like that, like going completely off the radar for a day or two. Definitely helps with mental health.

Historical fiction (Spain 1910s-1990s). I'm kind of looking forward to editing it and constantly scolding myself 😄 What's your genre?

Feeling pretty good about taking a seven-month break from social media and alcohol—and finally writing 60,000 words of the novel I've been planning for years but never got around to. ✍️

19/21 He was put aboard a vessel bound for the USA, & provided with a transit visa to Cuba. After 34 days, he arrived in Havana & stayed. He remained a member of the PCE & also joined the Cuban Communist Party.

18/21 In Portugal he was still not safe. If the police of the Salazar regime had found him, he would have be returned to Spain & shot. He sought help from the Argentine embassy & other allies & was eventually picked up by Interpol.

17/21 From a hotel in Vigo he got in contact with the local Argentine Consul & a guerrilla group who helped him cross into Portugal across the river by boat.

16/21 He said he was going to France but caught a taxi to Segovia, a bus to Valladolid, then a train to Galicia. He used another false document as provisional ID claiming he was a guard who has lost his wallet.

15/21 He made it to the Argentine embassy & was issued a passport. They told him to leave Madrid on a certain train but he trusted no one. He went to see his wife & gave her instructions how to leave Spain with their daughter via the Argentine authorities.

14/21 He followed the railway track 12km to the next station, bought a fascist newspaper & caught a night train. He sat near two civil guards & smoked while reading.

13/21 They notified the police & tried to capture him in the next town. He collected the suitcase & washed & changed in a meadow. In one of the stolen documents, he wrote that he had been released after serving time.

12/21 When he was delivered to the civil guard in charge of the transfer, he ran into dense thicket a few meters away. The guards did not have time to arm their rifles & lost sight of him.

11/21 He asked for a haircut & a shave. He previously instructed his wife to leave a suitcase at the house of the site foreman he has befriended. It contains clothes, shoes, razors, soap, a fountain pen & three thousand pesetas.

10/21 Suddenly, he was informed that the next day he would be transferred to Madrid. He thought that it was at the request of the Argentine embassy, but his contacts suggest otherwise & that he will be murdered for attempted escape.

9/21 José's wife Pilar managed to deliver a food basket to them with two guns & ammunition concealed inside. The PCE sanctioned the escape but not the formation of a guerrilla cell; they didn't share his belief the regime would fall with the defeat of the Nazis.

8/21 In 1944, they drew up a plan to seize arms from the guards & steal dynamite stored for excavation. They planned to form a guerrilla front in Guadarrama. They even convinced guards to take them climbing at weekends so they could get to know the mountains better.

7/21 Some members worked in the offices & gained knowledge of transfers & releases before they were applied. Officers left blank documents stamped & signed, including release orders, which prisoners accumulated to use later.

4/21 After the war, he fled to Valencia and then León. From there, he cycled overnight to Madrid to register in the Argentine consulate & obtain proof of citizenship. He stayed in Madrid but was arrested then beaten & tortured in the dungeons of the Puerta del Sol.

3/21 Then came the Spanish civil war. He had a choice: leave & protect his career. Or stay & defend the Republic. He stayed, joined the PCE (Partido Comunista de España) & fought in various units in Madrid. Many fellow cyclists are killed.

2/21 He trained hard & by his early 20s was competing at a high level, earning money & dreaming of the Tour de France. After a 19th place finish at the 1935 Vuelta a España, his dream was close.

I think Tim's stat is much less bad for women's cycling than saying "A 63 year old friend rode that same segment faster than Vollering."

Of course it's a hard effort, they are GC contenders, but the chase was in his hands, and he didn't burn his teammates chasing down a time trial specialist on the flat, they'll be fresh to pull him through the mountains.

Wasn't that much work for him at all, taking turns would have been. Was a calculated decision, that's all. Nothing cowardly about it.

Enough tow and the most likely rider to time trial that home

neilmzz @neilmzz.bsky.social · 25/03/2026
Less risk of losing seconds if you are on his wheel getting a tow, no guarantee relying on peloton

Remco wanted the stage win Jonas just wanted Remco's wheel, was the right call from the team in that scenario

A lot of people judged/still judge him on his Ineos road spell. The rest of his road, MTB and cross career has been exceptional.
