Amazed this hasn’t featured in Slow Horses as a Jackson Lamb eatery…

...and on launching the Big Care Conversation elected to make remarks on Today, LBC and to the Times suggesting too many people were being classified as disabled & directed towards support 'when they could work'. As yet we have absolutely no sight of thinking around working age adults.

I think the politics is with the debate around older people. The Casey Commission TOR explicitly says working age disabled people's support to be addressed separately. Interesting she is also on the advisory group for the Milburn NEET review increasingly the vector for PIP/DLA reform....

Telegraph headlines aside, to the extent this does represent a sharp increase in the number of children experiencing disability or serious health conditions, the whole debate about the future of social care is presently focused only on demographic change as it relates to ageing.

Not an original comment I'm sure, but the new Fontaines album is a pure masterpiece isn't it? Rosalia! Amazing. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxS3...

people rang very trued in that moment. And it's just above all else, so sad. Bright, intelligent, articulate people have gone down rabbit holes and it's impossible to pull them out because they're clinging on to a 'reality' and the certainty it offers. What is her son learning from her?

I could see her scrolling on her phone, flitting between online clothes and beauty products and what looked like conspiracy theorists. The night before I'd been to see 'The Social Reckoning'. It's a bit of a shite film, but the central premise that social media companies have actively radicalised

...and then she told me climate change wasn't real... that 'typhoons' were 'created'. I asked her by who, and why whoever created them would do. She said 'that's a good question'. And I took the opportunity to say I needed to get back to some work I was doing.

...and then it took a turn. She told me she'd been pregnant during the Covid lockdowns, and hoped we never return to such 'authoritarianism'. She said 'Fauci' had invented the '666' (?) related to social distancing....

We ended up joking about it, and then chatting for a bit. It started innocuously, about her 5 year old's school presentation about their pet parrot, which she said they'd inherited from her parents, who'd died, and which she told me could imitate their voices....

At Lancaster a woman in her 40s got on and sat down beside me, first checking it was ok and 'not really annoying'. She seemed nice, kept herself to herself until about 20 minutes later she laughed as he got up to get off and asked 'do you think he understands what it says on his hat?'

Yesterday afternoon I got a train from Glasgow to London. When I say down I noticed a man wearing a red baseball cap say at a nearby table seat. Emblazoned on it in white was the word 'Twat'. It looked like this.

Was in Edinburgh Monday & bought what I thought was a lovely autumn jacket which I felt really good in. I slung it on tonight to walk my 12 year old daughter to guides & she said "I don't like your jacket - you look like a farmer". The power of a 12 year old daughter's critique is off the scale.

Was a special moment for me to share this film today and the evaluation of Live More that goes alongside it. My involvement has been rooted in my own experience of my dad's 'journey' with Alzheimer's, and equally my mums of supporting him and what it has meant since. The film says it all really.

What if..... rather than allowing people and families living with dementia to reach crisis, we reached people earlier, not with 'care' but with a relationship that helps people to be and do with the things that matter to them? Watch out for the full report and film tomorrow #LiveMore #SharedLives

The debate about the future of adult social care is missing a vital question: why? socialcarefuture.org.uk/noticeboard/...

Missing the Why: A Personal Take on Plans for a National Care Service - Social Care Future
Dr Anna Severwright reflects on what recent political developments could mean for working age disabled people – and why the debate about a potential National Care Service risks focusing on the ‘what’, such as free personal care, while missing the ‘why’.

Was with my 12 year old daughter yesterday morning, looking at some ‘vintage’ clothes in a local flea market. They were from the ‘1990s’. And the horror was compounded when it struck me that the 60s clothes we shopped for in Afflecks Palace in 1988 were more recent.

Burnham's National Care Service will "provide free personal care – support with the most basic human needs: eating, dressing and bathing.' And only, it seems, for older people Why 'free personal care' isn't the solution neilcrowther2.substack.com/p/free-perso...

Free personal care is not the solution
Andy Burnham has expanded on his Party Conference speech by saying older people will be entitled to free help with ‘eating, dressing and bathing’. But nothing else.

Just been to the cinema to see Bad Apples. Fabulous. For some reason Wednesday night at the Brixton Ritzy has this ‘social connection’ theme and people are invited to stay and discuss the film afterwards. Never seen a cinema theatre empty so quickly.

Homecare is broken, and it isn’t simply down to money or the way local councils commission it, as my family has recently experienced.

I was rescuing a kitten from a freezer on the island of anti Paros when I heard the news. The locals kept saying how sorry they were. Being abroad we didn’t register the gravity of it all at first. Later with a British beach-bar owner the 3 of us sat listening to the world service under the stars.
