pedestrians and ofc, an idiot behind the wheel of a car is even more of a danger. So on balance, even though i love mine and it's fun to ride, I'd recommend an e-bike as a better micro-mobility solution.

after a few drinks in the dark on bad surfaces are a recipe for disaster and the should probably be retired in favour of the bikes. Risk to others is more controversial. The problem is more about inconsiderate users than the mode of transport; I see plenty of cyclists on my commute blasting past

wheels are so small that any kind of pothole or even bike-friendly drop-kerbs can be catastrophic at speed. So they work well on a well-maintained bike-lane or pavement but not really elsewhere. We have Voi rental scooters and in the city; my view is that these, driven by inexperienced riders

Owner of one of these (gifted) which I use to commute 4 miles to work.... I definitely have mixed feelings. Mine maxes out at 25kph (15mph) and while I often think it would nice if it could go a _few_ mph faster, the idea of one doing 25 or 30mph is scary. The main risk to self imo is that

Kusto-loco v1.4.7 is now available. Copilot taught me a new KQL trick to extract selected fields from a JSON dictionary which is pretty neat!

When the story of why humanity didn't stop climate change is written, it will feature front pages like this. Even as the skies blacken with climate change-induced wildfires, right wing media continue their relentless crusade against measures to tackle it.
The Times: Net zero risks blackouts. Below a photo of French wildfires.

Couldn't agree more; I've always thought that the most effective developers are those who are able to build a very clear mental model of the system and the things that might contribute to the buggy behaviour before even touching the computer.

The nice charts are based on _sixels_ which are generated using a lightly modified version of @trackd.x64.se 's rather wonderful [trackd/sixel library](github.com/trackd/Sixel). (Sorry, I feel bad for forgetting to update the main page to give credit.)

Hmm - copilot suggest NetTopologySuite. May have a play around with this at the weekend - I've been wanting to add geo-lookup to kusto-loco for some time but never had a convenient source of polygons. :-)

This is definitely interesting - just curious if the api supports a lat/long->City/Country/Region lookup or if your thinking that this would be done by some other library ?

BBC caption: "The number of red kites in the UK has increased by 2,464%" I love red kites but using % to represent multiples > 1 and then using 4 significant figures is just daft. I suspect the number has multiplied by around 24.5 (not 25.5) but anyway.. wonderful photo by Mark Hopkins!

Right, it's not that I think they are *bad*; but their current energy policies are constrained by trying to appear "economically prudent" and hence insufficiently urgent. The Greens *express* urgency but then fail to follow through with policy that reflects that.

Fair. Also easing planning requirements on solar/wind. However, a govt that responds to an oil-shock with "let's help people pay for petrol" rather than "let's help people install solar panels" can't really be accused of treating climate change with urgency.

It's a shame that none of our political parties seem to fall into the "takes climate change seriously"/"has sensible polices to address climate change" quadrant :-(

I finally got round to resurrecting the "copilot" support in lokqldx (with the help of github copilot!). I'm actually pretty impressed by Claude Sonnet's ability to use KQL behind the scenes to "probe" data from various sources - in this case application-insights. Still WIP but if you want...

you're twiddling your thumbs for 5 minutes waiting for it to figure out how to change the font size on a label or something equally trivial that you could do yourself in 30 seconds if you'd written it yourself and understood it well. The temptation is to keep deferring the work needed to gain

The point about using them "for every minor change" is something I was discussing with a team-mate just today. There's definitely a tendency to let the LLM take over responsibility for "owning" the code. Initially it's great productivity boost, adding features faster than you could but by the end

may just be that I haven't learned to use it effectively yet and should have taken smaller more focussed steps. But however you look at it, natural language is an insufficiently precise mechanism to treat as a true abstraction layer; any attempt to "rebuild" from natural language + small spec

maintaining or refactoring existing code. I recently tried to "convert" a non-trivial application from WPF to Avalonia. The results weren't good; a lot of non-UI-related business logic was rewritten by the AI as it floundered around trying to remove compilation errors. Admittedly the "fault"

It's a long time since I wrote or bothered looking at assembly. My main concern with AI as an "abstraction layer" is that it's an extremely loose-coupled and non-deterministic mapping. That might not matter when generating new code but suggests that you're likely to get in trouble when
