Picked up some new cards for the slop pile. +5 Franchises getting us ever closer to the ideal Magic the Gathering deck.

Finally got in the intended sleeves for The Slop Pile. Really ties everything together

Behold, the worst deck I own. A deck I lovingly refer to as "The Slop Pile". A fully functional Universes Beyond commander deck, organized as all MTG decks should be - by franchise of source material. This is Magic the Gathering as Richard Garfield intended.

Necroface, I just think this card is very funny and resolving either effect is hilarious

Super Starslayer TY-PHON Sky Crisis is one of the cooler recent innovations in the game's design. Incredibly well designed card that can give you just one more option to keep playing!

Caius the Shadow Monarch is the greatest of the original monarchs. Incredibly powerful card for its time. Awesome artwork as well.

Mirror Force, an incredibly iconic card. In my opinion this card is an important piece of formats like Edison as a mechanism to punish overextension in a way that you can still reasonably play around!

Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Chaos Ruler the Chaotic Magical Dragon. I know he's a criminal and he deserved to be banned. But it's just such a fun card to play.

Big Welcome Labrynth is the card that makes Lab an interesting deck to play! It makes it easy to trigger the various effects of Lab cards and lets you dodge interaction or remove one of your opponents cards.

Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Dark Magician of Chaos is an incredibly powerful card with an often game-ending effect. I love both the artwork and the general play pattern involving this card.

Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Magician of Faith is one of the most powerful Flip monsters of the DM era. I just love recycling my power spells!
010
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Kurikara Divincarnate - One of my favorite board breakers. It feels great to resolve and your opponent has to play into it, making it a little more interesting than a Lava Golem or a Kaiju.
010
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Torrential Tribute, one of the quintessential traps that punishes your opponent for overextending. Incredibly powerful card historically, and still occasionally finds modern formats where it becomes relevant once again.

Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Maybe I'm a sicko for this one, but I have a lot of love for powerful flip effect monsters from the DM/GX era. And none of them are more representative of this than the one and only Fiber Jar. Extremely unique card with beautiful artwork and an absolutely unreasonable effect. But I love it.
010
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Return from the Different Dimension is one of my favorite old-school payoffs. Everything from the incredibly strong effect to the artwork referencing tons of other cards from the era just speaks to me!
020
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Dark Armed Dragon is THE card I think of when it comes to boss monsters. He's a constant looming threat over the entire game in the decks he was played in historically. This, to me, truly embodies what it is to be a boss monster.

Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Paleozoics are one of the coolest Trap strategies ever printed and I think Paleozoic Dinomischus is the one of the most powerful cards in the engine. Just a super fun way to play if you love grindy games with high interaction!
010
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
That Grass Looks Greener is unique card that emblematic of an interesting paradox of deckbuilding when it's present at a high rate. Do you go to 60 to counter or run Grass? Or do you play a lower count for higher consistency while leaving yourself vulnerable to Grass?
020
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Pacifis, The Phantasm City is the primary enabler for the Phantasm Spiral strategy which provides a significant amount of advantage and powerful effects at the cost of being unable to use effect monsters.
010
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Fairy Tail - Luna is the center piece of a unique strategy called Luna Kaiju Control. I think this deck is super interesting and plays on a very unusual axis.
020
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
This may be a controversial one, but in my opinion, Kashtira Fenrir is a pretty well-designed card that provides a fair but powerful body & interaction when played as non-engine to many decks. I think it's much healthier than a card like Pankratops and it feels fair to play both with and against.
010
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Another one of my favorite boss monsters, Rescue-ACE Turbulence. Setting 4 feels great and the games I played in this format felt super interactive and interesting!
010
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
In general, I do like Swordsoul, but going first it can be a little too linear. The real beauty of the deck comes from the flexibility when going second, and I think the card that represents this ability the most is Tenyi Spirit - Vishuda.
130
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Shining Sarcophagus is the centerpiece of it's eponymous strategy. Really fun engine to play with and surprisingly competent with tons of room for non-engine!
020
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
In case it wasn't obvious, I love using my life points as a resource, so we have to include another one of my favorite boss monsters, Dinomorphia Rexterm. Very strong card in many games, though it's likely very frustrating to sit across from.

Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Psychic End Punisher is one of the big payoffs for both Gold Pride and P.U.N.K.! Sometimes it feels pretty good to just make a giant towers and go in for lethal!
030
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Gold Pride - Chariot Carrie lets you bridge the P.U.N.K. engine into another one of my favorite engines, Gold Pride. Awesome theme all around on these cards!
020
Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
It's hard to pick just one P.U.N.K. Monster, but Foxy Tune is the piece that makes the engine work! Incredibly fun engine to play with and beautiful artwork across the board on the entire archetype.

Neil @neilbefore.me · 16/11/2024
Eldlich the Golden Lord is the centerpiece of one of my favorite engines. The recursion and flexibility of the engine makes it one of my all-time favorites.

Solemn Judgment is a powerful card that can be relevant in nearly any format while still having meaningful cost.

Sacred Fire King Garunix has been the card that single handedly has made playing Snake-Eye fun for me. It's an extremely powerful and incredibly interesting card that provides deep, layered interactions.
