The Tories are always about short term thinking. They’ll do anything to cut a corner today for a few quod, and couldn’t care less is it causes problems for tomorrow.

Short-term thinking that is so typical of the Tories. Anything for a cheaper day today, while creating a long term-burden.

Trump and the MAGA crowd will cite this as a win. Unfortunately, the threat of a diesel export ban by the USA has already further eroded the image of the USA as a reliable trade partner.

Manipulation and division by the USA. They have already undermined NATO. Trump has said he believes the EU was set up to destroy America. This is what we have to deal with in 2026. Russia must be running out of Champagne. 🍾

Hold on… isn’t that a bit ‘socialist’, giving tax payer’s money to someone else? All just before the midterms… hmm 🤔 How far does $500 go in the American healthcare system nowadays?

The suggestion alone damages the image of a reliable USA. It’s the same with NATO. The uncertainty caused by Trump is enough to weaken the alliance. Trump is doing both. He weakens NATO and the reliabliity of the USA. He is a wrecking ball.

Splintering European countries. Damaging NATO. Causing a global energy crisis by attack Iran. Going easy on Russia and blaming Ukraine. Tariffs on former allies. Potentially banning export of diesel to Europe. It’s clear that the USA is seeking to damage Europe severely.

$40 trillion in debt that has allowed the USA to consume more than it could ever produce. Not sustainable. The ‘dollar’ era is now reaching its conclusion.

The UK has had a fascist era? You do realise that Brexit came from a centre-right government? The current government in the UK is centre-left. There are harder right governments in the EU currently. Not sure your characterisation of the UK is accurate at all.

Well, if that’s the general consensus in Europe, then the UK won’t re-join because the UK will never be trusted. A lose/lose situation. Thankfully, not everyone thinks like this. Encouraging statements politicians in Spain, France and Germany & others suggest the UK would be welcome again.

Nope @neilbef.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I agree, it’s up to the EU to decide if the UK could re-join. However, I think pragmatists will prevail. It IS in both sides interests for the UK to be in the EU. It is up to the UK to convince the EU that a repeat won’t happen and the UK accepts that Brexit was a mistake.

Nope @neilbef.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Good. Hopefully it’s quick and lays out what we already know - we should apologise for our mistake and apply to re-join.

Short term Trumpism could lead to long term contract reviews if the US is no longer seen as a reliable source. He could damage the US reputation. Maybe this would be the push countries need to reduce dependency on fossil fuels?

The US is a huge market, consuming more per person than anywhere else and far more than it produces. The debt that has allowed that imbalance to continue is now at unsustainable levels, so I think there may well be a huge shock to the system soon. That shock might create a global depression.

Nope @neilbef.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Short term Trumpism could damage US credibility as a reliable source. I expect if he goes ahead, a lot of long term contracts with the US might be reviewed. Hopefully this will create a further push to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and the dependency on foreign countries that comes with them.

People will always continue to trade with the US, but I expect plenty of long term contracts will be reviewed if he goes ahead with his ban. The upside is that this might be an additional push away from fossil fuel use and the dependency on other countries that it creates.

It will be a tremendous indication to buyers of US diesel that the USA can not be relied on and that an alternative to fossil fuels is imperative.

USA caused the global problem by attacking Iran. USA compounds the global problem by banning exports. I can only hope that this is the kick up the backside global diesel buyers need that a) the USA is not to be relied on and b) an alternative to diesel is more attractive, long term.
000
Nope @neilbef.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Meanwhile, the USA has then sent the rest of the world the clearest indication yet that they can not be relied upon. Long term buyers of US diesel might just seek long term solutions elsewhere.

Fewer competitors in the market means less choice for the American consumers. I expect this will mean higher prices, poorer quality and reduced need for remaining companies to innovate.
