Repetitive ads that disrupt videos and make me hate the advertisers and their products weren't enough – now the YouTube app for iOS has also become a phishy malware installer. Fuck you, Google. Seriously, I mean it, from deep down in my heart: fuck you.

From "Hyperion" (Dan Simmons, 1989)

Photographed text excerpt from Dan Simmons' 1989 sci-fi novel Hyperion:
"Siri sipped at her coffee. 'I would have thought your Hegemony was far beyond a petroleum economy.'
I laughed and locked the wheel in, 'Nobody gets beyond a petroleum economy. Not while there's petroleum there.'"

From "Hyperion" (Dan Simmons, 1989) By far not my favourite book ever, but mate was he ahead of time. Not quite on Asimovian levels, but still – woah. #ai #copyright #books #authorship #reading

Photo of a short excerpt from the book "Hyperion" by Dan Simmons, written 1989, about artificial intelligence and (lack of) respect for copyright and intellectual property:

'You said seventy million were planned,' I said.
'Yeah, well, we changed our minds after Transline's resident AI read it.'
I slumped lower in the flowfoam. 'Even the AI hated it?'
'The AI loved it,' said Tyrena. 'That's when we knew for sure that people were going to hate it.'
I sat up. 'Couldn't we have sold copies to the TechnoCore?'
'We did,' said Tyrena. 'One. The millions of Als there probably real-time-shared it the minute it came in over fat-line. Interstellar copyright doesn't mean shit when you're dealing with silicon.'

Photo of my 12-piece tray of 250g Marmite jars standing on the kitchen counter. Still wrapped in its cling plastic, and obviously – it's Marmite, duh – there are a few brown smudges inside, from brown goodness leaking out during transport.

Slightly blurry photo of daddy blackbird standing on the side of family blackbird's nest, erected on one of the top rungs of a ladder mounted outside the garage wall, administering what I assume are nourishing shreds of pre-digested sub-lawn wriggler meat to his young ones.
