I just finished #Yaga yesterday and am so excited to see how they adapt it. Thankful that Heated Rivalry/Hudson got so big, because I might not have found out about it otherwise. It’s so sharp and weird and funny.

I know this is already your life, but YIKES. People are (rightfully) gushing over all the work Connor did to learn Russian with his dialect coach, and it makes the lack of research for Shane’s character way more glaring. I don’t think ambiguousness actually helps, dude!
Threads post from library_book_wyrm saying
I don't want to rain on this parade and it's truly great that they gave Connor a good coach and he worked his ass off, but I would have liked to see the same energy given to Shane's identity. In the show, we still don't know what part of Asia his family hails from! He's just
"Asian Canadian" and it feels unbalanced.
With reply from
alizeusbff saying
I think this was on purpose since in the book he was Japanese and Hudson is Korean. Also, I saw an interview with Hudson saying something to the effec of that he wanted it to be ambiguous so as many people as possible could relate to it.

Fun fact: skunks can definitely dig underneath wire.
Image of a wooden deck with wire bolted on blocking underneath and a one way door designed for animals to be able to get out, but not back in. There is a hole under the wire where skunks dug to presumably get back in.

A reply from one of my college friends when I posted an anti-AI thing. Drives me bananas when people try to justify it with “welp, it’s not going away!” 🙃
Facebook reply that says: I know you hate it and I totally get your perspective. It's terrifying, but there are also so many incredible outcomes associated with it. Many of us will lose our jobs, some of it is plagiarism, but definitely not all of it.
Numerous novel medical therapies, climate solutions, and poverty solutions will come from it. It is unfortunately energy intensive but globally we are genuinely on the cusp of unlimited renewable energy.

JUAN GONZÁLEZ: And, Greta, could you talk about how you see the issue of Palestinian freedom connecting to or intersecting with the issue that you're best known for, which is climate change activism?
GRETA THUNBERG: Yeah. For me, there is no way of distinguishing the two. The phrase “We cannot have climate justice without social justice” is highlighted in blue. The reason why I am a climate activist is not because I want to protect trees. I'm a climate activist because I care about human and planetary well-being, and those are extremely interlinked. For example, when we see the genocide in Gaza, of course, there are some very obvious links, that ecocide, environmental destruction is a very common method used in war and to oppress people.
But also, it should be much simpler than that. No matter what the cause of the suffering is, whether that is CO2, whether that is bombs, whether that is state repression or other forms of violence, we have to stand up against that source of suffering. And if we pretend to care about the environment, if we pretend to care about the climate and our children's future, without seeing and acknowledging and fighting against the suffering of all marginalized people today, then that is an extremely racist approach to justice that excludes the majority of the world's population.

It just occurred to me that if Canada and Greenland were made US states with Congressional and Senate representation (along with Puerto Rico and DC), the Republican party would never win another national election.
Maybe Canada and Greenland ought to save the United States.

He is talking about “freedom and opportunity” solely for billionaires to steal from people.
Excerpt from a Varga article

Schmitt: Did they go crazy?
Musk: [laughs/ Yeah, they did - they did go crazy. I mean that whole cancel culture and, you know, trying to, trying to stop freedom of speech, and um, infringe upon, just in general, infringe upon people's personal freedoms. You know, they just want state control, state control of what you say... They wanna, they wanna, you know, take away your guns, and the reason they wanna take away your guns, is like, so there's nothing you can do to oppose them. So it's sort of like, you know, I just, I just, I just like. We, we, we, we just need to restore the fundamental elements of what made America great, which is, uh, freedom and opportunity.

The words and letters associated with “queer” and “transgender” were wrongfully erased from this page to obey a hateful, felonious, fascist-wannabe clump of cells who happens to sit regularly in the Oval Office. He thinks he can erase history for his own narrative, but he is wrong. Transgender and queer people are here to stay and we will protect them with everything we have.

The newest dystopian thriller that everyone is talking about these days is a little hard to swallow, even by Hollywood standards. The supervillain is an almost cartoonish sort: The world's richest man with a drug habit, 11 scattered kids, and a penchant for sleeping on couches (if at all). With his posse of young male tech groupies, he uses his billions to first buy the political discourse, then a greedy puppet president, and finally, through him, the levers of government.
It's almost too late when the masses learn the villain's real purpose: To replace the flawed humanity of democracy with machines designed by an unaccountable tech elite. And the heroes of our story
- a gaggle of activists, outsider journalists and mid-level politicians who realize the truth - are running out of time.
