A three-panel comic. Panel 1: Frodo from Lord of the Rings wears the One Ring. A voice from off-panel shouts “destroy the ring, Frodo!” Frodo’s face contorts as he hisses. Panel 2: a blonde character is standing, looking down at his phone. He says to himself “lol, Frodo, you weak little nerd.” A hand reaches in from off-panel to the left and a voice says “gimme your phone.” Panel 3: the blonde character’s face contorts as he hisses in a manner identical to Frodo.

What horror movie image haunts you? Every time I have to feel my way through the dark. Every. Time.
A scene from the movie “Skinamarink.” From the view of the child protagonist, a man, their father, sits at the edge of a bed in near-total darkness. We only see his legs, which are clothed in pajama pants. The man is whispering “look under the bed.”

A four panel comic. Panel 1: an artist holds a stylus over a drawing tablet. “Almost done…lookin’ good!” Panel 2: a close up of the tablet displaying a drawing of a handsome guy. “Time to flip it and check the proportions.” Panel 3: the image is now flipped horizontally and the handsome guy’s face is now horribly distorted. Panel 4: we pull back to see the artist’s face is also distorted.

Whipped up a poster for my buddy Pat’s show coming up in July. I pitched a “Whalefall” parody but he preferred this “freediver” one. I may do the former anyway because who wouldn’t want to be depicted kicking a whale’s ass.
A poster depicting an underwater scene. A beared man with black-rimmed glasses and wearing shoes and a sport coast is diving downward and reaching out to a Telecaster electric guitar that is sinking below him in the foreground. The man clutches an instrument cable in his left hand which twirls up to the surface behind him like a lifeline, which he reaches out dramatically with his right hand for the guitar. Currents and bubbles swirl around both. Lettering on the poster reads: “Patrick Porter. Thursday July 23 at the Fiddler’s Inn, 9219 35th Avenue northeast.”

The second character responds: "But your novel isn't finished yet."

The goose chase meme, but the goose is asking “why are they shooting at each other, Andy? *why* are they shooting at each other?” in response to Andy Weir’s hot take about politics and social commentary in sci-fi and how he just wants “to watch Romulans and the Federation shoot at each other.”

Seeing lots of art advice on here recently so I’m sharing these thoughts from Michael Sweater (not on bsky I guess?) that I think about a lot. “Just get better than the worst pros.” 😚🤌
An Instagram Q&A by michaelsweater

Question: How to draw even if you’re bad at it?

1. DO IT ALOT.
2. GET BETTER AT WHAT YOU ARE THE WORST AT.
3. TAKE MORE ADVICE FROM ATHELETES THAN YOU DO FROM ARTISTS
4. DONT WORRY ABOUT BEING THE BEST. JUST GET BETTER THAN THE
WORST PROS.

A four-panel comic entitled “Insights.”
Panel 1:
Two people sit at a small table with drinks. One says, “It’s a new year! Time for self-reflection! So, have you learned anything?”

Panel 2:
The second person answers blandly, “Yes.” They continue, “I’ve learned stoicism without emotional honesty poisons the spirit...that one can earnestly yearn for peace while secretly approving of violence.”

Panel 3:
The second person continues, “That hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance are natural and necessary for maintaining any sort of sanity when navigating the horrors of the human condition.”

Panel 4:
They take a sip of their drink and ask, “And you?” The first person replies, “Well, turns out I actually like grilled asparagus.”
