With the deadline THIS SATURDAY we decided to post some Q & A we've been answering semi-frequently! Any other questions? Don't be afraid to ask!

Q: Does NDK take international entries?

Yes! While we're located in Colorado, USA - we accept entries from all around the world. This is something we try to always make clear in every post because we want everyone to feel welcome. We know that not everyone has a local convention or a place to show off their videos. Our goal is to show incredible AMVs, regardless of who they're by and where that editor is from, to our audience.
So if you make AMVs and respect the rules of our contest, you're welcome to submit!

Q: Why do you want my address?

Free stuff! It's a long standing tradition at NDK that we send a free editor badge to every single person who submits to the contest, regardless if they'll be in attendance or not. It's our way of saying "Thanks for supporting our event!" - If you ARE in attendance then it grants you early, priority seating to the contest and a specially marked ballot to vote for the "Editor's Choice Best in Show" award. Please note that this badge does NOT grant you acess to the convention, you still have to buy a badge for that.

Please know you are NOT required to provide your address if you don't feel comfortable sharing it. We fully understand and respect your right to privacy.

And side note, if you have ever entered and did NOT receive your stuff, email us! The mail is a nightmare void of despair and confusion. Sometimes things get lost or returned and this event has changed hands over the years. But if you submit we want to make sure you get your goods.

Q: Can I enter the same category with multiple videos?

Yes! If you made 3 super cool action videos and that's what you want to submit, then send them along! You don't have to try and reclassify your videos and force them into categories they don't fit in.

Q: How is this contest judged?

The finalists are determined by a panel of judges. These judges consist of both AMV editors and AMV fans to represent a wide variety of opinions. All the AMVs we receive are judged in the same day, within the same room. Yes, we lock our judges in a room for 10+ hours and they don't get to leave until we have finalists determined.

While I know this may lead some to be concerned regarding stamina, or judges getting "tired" of watching videos after a period of time, I am here to personally promise you that if a judge shows disinterest and lack of commitment to this process they will no longer be invited to judge. Also, lot's of breaks and snacks are provided. :)

Each video is discussed on it's own individual merits and how it would fit into the contest. "Track record", so previous contest wins, have no baring in the discussion. Judging is blind, with editor names stripped from the videos and ballots. This is ONE of the reasons we request credits to be removed from entries that are submit.

If a judge knows who made a specific video, they are not allowed to share this information during judging. If a judge was involved in the creation of the video (MEP, Collab, solo-edit) they are REQUIRED to vote the video out of the contest entirely.

Source bias, whether it be song or anime, does not play into account. Someone might personally not be a Demon Slayer fan but if a well edited Demon Slayer video is submit then it will be voted on accordingly. That goes for all videos we receive.

Judges vote on which videos they believe should be finalists, which videos they believe should be played at our Overload event, and which videos do not qualify for either.

Finalists are then presented to our audience at the event, who vote via in-person ballot in several categories. Ballots are tallied and winners decided.

With the #AMV Contest deadline rapidly approaching we wanted to take a minute to address AMV Overload! Both what it is, for those who might not me aware of it's existence, and some bumps in the road it's experienced the past couple years. www.nandesukan.org/ndk-mainstag...

Let's Talk About AMV Overload
What is AMV Overload?
Due to the high number of AMV Contest entries and limited finalist spots, we created 'AMV Overload' — a non-competitive showcase for standout videos that didn’t make the final cut but still deserve recognition.
What's been going on with Overload the past couple years?
Simply put, this event hasn’t received the attention or respect it deserves. While I could point to the constant staff transitions across departments as an explanation, the reality is, it doesn’t change the outcome. This event has struggled for years, and that’s simply inexcusable.
What is the plan moving forward?
As of this year, we’ve brought on a dedicated AMV staff member whose sole focus is running Overload, our very own 'Overload Overlord,' if you will. The AMV team has also invested in our own equipment, separate from the main convention’s, giving us almost full control over the technical side.
We’re collaborating closely with panel staff to run the room in a way no
other viewing panel has before. Simply put, Overload is basically now fully in our hands.
Anything else?
We want Overload to feel like a true event, because it is! It's a showcase of outstanding work that stands on its own, even outside the main contest.
That’s why, starting this year, we’re introducing Honorable Mention awards, selected exclusively from Overload entries.

These awards will be chosen by our judging staff during the anonymous review process. Winning videos will be marked during the event with a special banner or title screen, and winners will also be recognized at the Contest Awards ceremony on Sunday. Awards can be picked up there, and any not claimed will be mailed to their recipients
That’s a quick overview of the situation!
We’ll be including more details about the Honorable Mention awards in the letter that comes with the AMV Badges, so be sure to keep an eye out for that! Feel free to respond with any and all questions, comments,
or concerns! <3
