Back then welfare cuts were 'imposed' by the EU (they were self-inflicted in the UK). Now they are dictated by NATO, and its largest 'shareholder'. A way to remember that today is the 9th anniversary of the Brexit referendum - so much so for regaining sovereignty www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

This seems a more nuanced & thoughtful approach to regulating platform work than the current New Zealand government's "gateway test"/make everyone an independent contractor plan.

These EU reforms were long in the making. theguardian.com/world/2024/d... Their pros and cons were carefully considered by @etui.bsky.social in a report published a few years back etui.org/publications... They are not anodyne reforms and have important economic but also social implications.
