That's a fair take. And, I think some teams look around and are like, "Wait, if the Canes won't give him the bag, what are we doing wrong thinking about it?" I definitely think there are teams who don't want to get fleeced here.

Not sure I'd go with "everyone" but that's purely a matter of opinion. (I'm not trying to say anyone not wanting him back shouldn't feel that way, btw.)

I'm almost never going to back billionaire owners over players. There is the occasional outlier, like Keith Primeau. But I get that these guys have a limited window to get as much as they can. Can't expect everyone to take a discount.

The Profar situation really messed up the roster construction, but that was avoidable after last year & they did not. But literally no one except Harris showed up offensively in the postseason. Just bad.

To be fair, I think a lot of this began w/ Steve REALLY working him over in contract negotiations. And it sounds like he finally decided he'd had enough. IDK, but I think there's more there than simply 'this team isn't good & I want out'. Though we'll probably never know the totality.
