I’m grateful to all the people who are working tirelessly to bring this gem of a community back.

In Chimney Rock, Anna and I recently spent time with local business owners, students, and community members to see their progress firsthand and hear about the work underway to rebuild stronger and more resilient.

As many as 250,000 North Carolinians are at risk of losing their coverage, and rural hospitals and health care providers face even more financial pressure. I continue to urge Congress to reverse these cuts and protect access to care for North Carolinians.

I joined Medicaid beneficiaries, rural health providers, and local leaders in Fayetteville to hear how the federal Medicaid cuts in H.R. 1 could affect their families, patients, and communities.

Every North Carolinian deserves access to the health care they need, and we should be lowering costs for families, not making life harder.

Hope. Love. Determination. That’s what I’ve seen from the people of Marshall and throughout western North Carolina, and that spirit will continue to guide the community as we rebuild for the long haul, brick by brick.

Governor Stein Calls on HHS to Protect Head Start and North Carolina’s Future
Today Governor Josh Stein called on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to protect key standards for Head Start programs as the department…

Governor Josh Stein @ncgovernor.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
I urge Secretary Kennedy to preserve the standards that help Head Start programs deliver high-quality early education and comprehensive services because investing in our young children is one of the most important things we can do for North Carolina’s future.

Governor Josh Stein @ncgovernor.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
North Carolina Head Start serves 17,600 children and brings more than $290 million in federal funds to local economies all over the state.

Governor Josh Stein @ncgovernor.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is considering changes to things like the staff-to-child ratios that would weaken the safeguards central to the program’s success.
140
Governor Josh Stein @ncgovernor.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
Head Start has earned bipartisan support for generations by helping children prepare for school and connecting families with critical resources and support. Its success comes from pairing local leadership with a strong federal commitment.

I look forward to working with AG Jackson and the General Assembly to make sure this money supports kids’ safety and well-being.

North Carolina received the first $45.2 million payment from the historic Meta child safety settlement. The state is guaranteed at least $451 million through 2035, with the potential for even more.

Just 88 days after his old house was torn down, Dennis had the keys to a brand-new home in Leicester. It was great to see Dennis walk through his new home and hear what this moment means to him and his family. I’m grateful for Renew NC’s efforts to help families rebuild after Hurricane Helene.

Nearly 1.5 million North Carolinians struggle with mental health challenges, and too many people in rural areas cannot access the care they need. These investments will connect more families to high-quality care in their communities.

Governor Josh Stein @ncgovernor.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
More than $17 million through North Carolina’s Rural Health Transformation Program is on the way to improve and expand mental health and substance use services in rural communities.

NC Governor: Imminent federal Medicaid cuts will cost everyone | Opinion
In H.R.1, Congress cut the Medicaid program by $1 trillion and loaded it with bureaucracy and paperwork. What that means in North Carolina.
0110
Governor Josh Stein @ncgovernor.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
We should be lowering costs for North Carolina families, not making their lives harder, and Congress needs to act now.
1110
Governor Josh Stein @ncgovernor.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
Federal Medicaid cuts will affect more than just people on Medicaid. These cuts will also put rural hospitals at risk and drive up health care costs for families across North Carolina.

Governor Josh Stein @ncgovernor.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
Since Day 1 in office, I’ve worked to lower the costs for North Carolinians. The General Assembly needs to join me in this effort.

The cost of living is too high for people throughout our state. Grocery bills are going up. Power bills are going up. And thanks to the President’s disastrous war of choice, gas prices are sky-high. When we have an opportunity to bring down costs for families, we need to take it.
1215
Governor Josh Stein @ncgovernor.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Today I signed House Bill 3 to bring down costs for families, but our work cannot end here. I remain committed to continuing to work across the aisle to make everyday living more affordable for every North Carolinian, not just during election season.

This summer, I signed legislation to make it easier to build more homes of different types and sizes, and our state is going to keep working with local communities and partners to expand housing opportunities across North Carolina.
