The CDC plans to cut disability questions from one of the federal government’s main health surveys, including a question about intellectual or developmental disabilities and autism. This would make it harder to track health problems and decide where funding and services are needed.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB 1901, which requires diaper manufacturers to disclose intentionally added ingredients online and on product packaging. The new law will help parents better understand what’s in the diapers they buy and make more informed choices for their families.

Babies use an average of about 3,000 disposable diapers each year—but do you know what’s in the #diaper touching your baby’s skin? Starting in 2029, California parents will have more information.

In a separate study, about 2 in 3 injuries among riders under 16 were considered major, sometimes requiring ICU care. What parents should know: E-scooters are not toys. Make sure kids wear a helmet and slow down.

E-scooters may be convenient, but they can cause serious injuries — especially in kids. Hospital admissions involving e-scooter injuries nearly doubled from 2021 to 2023. And 88% of injured riders were not wearing a helmet. #ChildSafety #ScooterSafety

Are #GLP1 weight-loss drugs medications or a way to look and feel better? If they keep getting advertised as "lifestyle" products, your health insurance may not pay for them. A recent study found that 1M+ Americans use weight-loss drugs without a documented medical indication.

The results are interesting, but we can't assume they are accurate until a larger study with a control group is conducted. But we know ultraprocessed foods are not as healthy as food in a more natural state, so if you're feeling down, why not give it a try?
000
National Center for Health Research @nc4hr.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Could cutting back on #UltraProcessedFoods help #depression? Maybe — but this study was VERY small. Just 20 people enrolled, and 19 finished. Their depression and anxiety symptoms improved.

Why? Food companies know it is a good idea to highlight one healthy-sounding ingredient and not mention anything that might concern you. One claim doesn’t tell the whole story. Check the #Nutrition Facts label. #FoodLabels #HealthyEating

A food package can say “sugar-free”, “low sodium”, or “low saturated fat” and still not be a healthy choice for you. Researchers examined more than 145,000 newly launched foods and drinks in the U.S. About 2 in 3 products were still classified as less healthy overall.

So why was the FDA leadership pushing for approval? Even if the FDA decides to approve it, patients need to know that there is no evidence that the test is accurate enough to save lives.

Should you take the Galleri multi-cancer blood screening test to help you live longer? We were glad to speak at yesterday's FDA meeting and explain why the test is no better than a coin toss. The test will tell most people who actually have cancer that they don't have cancer.

Most Women Who Regularly Use Eyelash Extensions May Get Skin Mites
FRIDAY, Sept. 11, 2026 (HealthDay News) — Eyelash extensions can give you fuller lashes — but a new study warns they may create a welcoming environment for some

Protect your eyes: • Eyelash extensions: Clean them twice a day with a special eyelid cleanser and lash brush. • False eyelashes: Be careful with lash glue. • Mascara: Replace old mascara and never share. • Eyeliner: Avoid the inner lash line.

Generic drugs save money compared to brand name drugs. Despite Pharma efforts to block generics, we've won -- generics are being approved by FDA faster than ever. But will we win the war? Most generics are as good as brand name drugs, but ProPublica found not all are.

That disconnect is important. It suggests the FDA’s new limits may reflect political decisions about vaccination rather than the medical evidence alone. Whatever happened to the #MAHA focus on "shared decision-making?"

The recent wave of research grant cancellations is cause for concern

This research saves lives and saves money. It prevents medical errors, the 3rd major cause of patient deaths! For example, a hospital unit following AHRQ recommendations reduced C. diff infections by 90% in the last 3 years! This intestinal infection can be deadly.
