Thanks William. Another Barker-Turner Overdrive 😄

@bigsort.bsky.social Just to show how slow moving the UK chart is these days, “Choosin’ Texas” by Ella Langley has finally gone to number one today 😄

Thoroughly enjoyed chatting to Paul Banks of Mcrscenestories last December (it’s gone quick!) about Kingbee Records and Manchester indie clubs 🙂 m.youtube.com/watch?v=D1lD...

Great to have you back. I first heard “It’s My Party” in 1981 when it was a number one for Dave Stewart (not that one) and Barbara Gaskin. Still prefer that version - I think it suits the mood of the lyrics better than the original.

Think it was just bad editing. They probably meant “Your Lucky Day In Hell” which was released around the time Diana died.

“I’m a daft dog. Diddly diddly dee”. Great fun as always 😄

It’ll be the third time I’ve seen Lene but never seen any of the others so really looking forward to it.

Seeing them tonight in Manchester 🙂

Third play for Small Ads and still no mention of Ben Dover 😄

Thanks William. Surprised Debbie Turner didn’t suggest it too 😄

@bigsort.bsky.social Ella Langley has done surprisingly well in the UK. “Choosin’ Texas” has been on the chart for 18 weeks so far with a peak position of number 13. Can’t say I’m a fan though.

One of them was also porn star Ben Dover.

Another Gary US Bonds Beatles link is that he covered “It’s Only Love” on his 1981 comeback album “Dedication” and it was a minor hit in the UK when released as a single.

Ah yes, I remember this album now.

Whilst we’re “off air” for a couple of weeks, we’d love you to dip into the old episodes of Paul’s novelty song podcast, The Head Ballet, such as this one about Sue Wilkinson’s amazing 1980 tune You've Gotta Be A Hustler If You Wanna Get On with guest Catrin Lowe plinkhq.com/i/1516546969...

Listening now. Same as Catrin, I first became properly aware of it due to TOTP repeats (UK Gold in the ‘90s).

Great song that more people should know about.

New live weekly show starting this evening at around 7.45. "Back To The '80s" with my friend Simon Fairgrieve on Mixcloud. As long as it's from the '80s and not played too often he will play it. Requests welcome #BackToThe80sSF

By the way, you have both inspired me and my friend Mike to sort out the ‘70s number ones which we have just completed and will move on to the ‘80s soon 🙂

Ah, missed that bit, sorry. I just heard you say to Garry there hadn’t been a UK charting version before Timmy’s. My mistake.

@bigsort.bsky.social Brian Hyland’s version of Itsy Bitsy did chart in the UK. It got to number eight.

Thanks William. Quite mellow compared to what I usually choose but still a nice song 🙂

I don’t get why anyone would think that people are lying about the #forgotten80s situation. Everyone loved the show, they would hardly do this just to get it cancelled!

Yeah he’s a mate of Rudd’s I believe.

Thanks William. “Tonight Matthew, we’re going to be The Beatles” 😄. Prefer their actual follow-up to “Danger Games”, “Holding Me Tight” but it missed the Top 75 in late ‘82.

#forgotten80s The end is nigh Abuse of women is disgusting and to use your position to facilitate it is abhorrent . My sympathy is extended to all affected. Until today I wasn't aware and for this im sorry. I would have spoken much sooner.
