No, this is not better. It is really just slightly -- and deceptively -- different from what he said before. Before: "I oppose trans athletes playing in girls sports if it endangers safety or fairness." Now: "I’ll always fight to make sure our student athletes and every sport is safe and fair."

Omg, did you not read this in my comment: "I'm not defending using that term"?? And another commenter implied that what Parker said was worse because the person she was addressing was marginalized. I don't think it is worse in that situation; it is never acceptable.

Is the person that she said she wanted to use the r slur against part of a marginalized group? I'm not defending using that term, but I don't know who it was she was addressing, or if they are marginalized. I *do* know that what that person was saying was infuriating, and I shared Parker's anger.

My kids' elementary school (grades K to 6) also shielded the students from what was going on. Which made sense given that they were young, but made even more sense given that some of the students' parents worked in the WTC. (This was in Queens, which is part of NYC.)

If the kid was pressured into this by his parents, I have sympathy for him. But I have zero sympathy for the parent. No one made him do this. I can't even imagine, as a parent, agreeing to something like this.
