Old favorites are back
Screenshot of a microblogging post that says "About a decade or so ago I switched fom Mac to Linux. When I did, I was too busy to figure out how to make my old iTunes music available. I finally got the amazing @navidrome music server set up and I'm listening to some old favorites. Here's one.

Someone built their own self-hosted jukebox with NFC cards so their 2 year old daughter could play music, free from other products' locked ecosystem. It plugs straight into Navidrome! www.pedaldrivenprogramming.com/2026/05/self...

Quote of the day: "I think notepad on windows 11 is more resource intensive" 😆
@navidrome I somewhat recently setup my navidrome and I'm using Symfonium to listen and I'm quite happy.

After Spotify locked me out of my account and Youtube no longer wanted to accept my money, I now self-host. Navidrome barely uses any ram or cpu. I think notepad on windows 11 is more resource intensive.

I have my music from back when I was in middle school, lol. They can't take that away from me.

"Self-hosting your music isn’t as complicated as it sounds, and the trade-offs are pretty reasonable. You’ll spend some time tagging files and maintaining your server, but in return, you get a library that nobody can alter, remove tracks from, or monitor for profit." mahalsa.us/i-ditched-sp...

Spotify and YouTube Music are convenient until you start noticing the cracks. Tracks disappear when licensing deals fall through, algorithms push convenience

Totally legitimate fear, we've seen too many great open source software become enshittified. We are actually starting to think about a legal structure to ensure Navidrome remains open-source and community-centric. What other open-source software have you seen do this well that we could learn from?
screenshot of a post that says "I am excited to have found #Navidrome But it's apparently SO good that I am wondering if it's at risk of being corporatized after I've committed to building my offline system around it 🤔"

Another benefit from Navidrome: your library is under your complete control. You're not locked in if you want to move elsewhere. And you can listen to that same library on whatever device and service you like. Even on your old iPod. Because we all love our old iPod 🫶

It’s not exactly going analog, but people looking to move away from streaming say Apple’s old device is a small step away from constantly being online.

Navidrome doesn't sell printed books but we also don't sell your data or lock your music listening experience so... pros and cons 🤷
Spotify now sells printed booksThe partnership with Bookshop.org is rolling out to Spotify users in the US and UK.

With Navidrome, you're in control: don't like AI? Navidrome ships free of AI features. You do want AI? Add it in, it's up to you. For example, there's AudioMuse-AI, which brings automatic playlist generation to your self-hosted music library--including Navidrome! neptunehub.github.io/AudioMuse-AI/
