Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 17/08/2026It’s sorghum time! Out field sampling the plant tissue, soil microbial communities, and any aphids I can sweep into my nets. 230

Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 04/08/2026New aphid I found while sweep netting the sorghum fields - Sipha flava, better known as the yellow sugarcane aphid. They can transmit sugarcane mosaic virus. 020
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Igni (my husband) and I went to Isle of Berk in June and we are still absolutely obsessed! I still listen to the mead hall music while I’m writing. It was SO good! 100
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 29/07/2026For reference, this is what aphids look like and why I need my scope. Otherwise they are just green dots. 010
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 24/07/2026How I feel each workday after working on my research proposal. 010
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 24/07/2026Spoiled by the incredibly generous @tokoriart.bsky.social! I absolutely love this piece; each of my characters are so special to me and it’s so fun to have them all together. It’s a Nat mood board! Please give them a follow if you’re not already. Their art is highly deserving of more eyes. 0245
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 23/07/2026First monarchs I’ve seen this summer. And at my favorite park too! 110
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 22/07/2026Spilosoma, why you like the bricks by the door to my work building? Such a fluffy cutie pie. 010
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 18/07/2026Finally able to produce some attacks! This one is for a user on artfight (NyancarXwX), of their fox Friday, since they drew my sweet Matcha. 030
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 14/07/2026Back in the fields today, scouting for aphids in sorghum. I’m especially hopeful to find Melanaphis sacchari. 020
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 11/07/2026Little guys are all in a row! They look like Flatid planthoppers of some variety, maybe Ormenoides venusta considering there are many pawpaws around. 100
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 02/07/2026My Hoya carnosa decided to bloom this morning! There are 5 more bloom spikes coming in, so I can’t wait to see them all. 120
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 25/06/2026That’s my favorite part of the Universal parks too, is that every detail has been lovely crafted and themed to fit the environment. It’s brilliant! I’m so over this AI is better than the craft. I DESIRE human made art, lovely made by master crafts. Please I’m begging. I want the whimsy of it all! 060
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 14/06/2026Made it to Orlando, FL for my holiday with family! It’s been so sunny and can’t wait to start the day. Hoping some sunshine does us good. 120
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 11/06/2026Bluesky might be stupid, but I swear this reference is Disney PG. 🙃 Flag: 🩷💜💙 Always out here pondering those orbs! Fireball 🔥 020
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 05/06/2026I had to! I love my skink boy, Nori, and this looks just like him! 020
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 03/06/2026My partner and I cleaned the porch and organized the space so I can use it for plants and our child, Sencha, can use it for bird watching. It’s been a huge success. 120
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 03/06/2026Burle Marx are literally adorable. Mine has been going crazy since I gave it a moss pole to climb. Hopefully yours takes off too. (Also have my cat for fun) 010
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 21/02/2026Working on single aphid DNA extractions today! I want to look at how plant defenses influence aphid microbial allies. So the first step to peering into the microbial world is through the aphid’s DNA, especially because their microbial allies are present in their guts. 120
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 21/02/2026More no choice tests, where insects are cages to one individual plant. Hoping to see how each plants defensive phenotype (observable characteristics) influence insect symbionts (their microbial allies)! I’ll be presenting my findings at a conference this spring! 040
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 18/02/2026Caitir, the unicorn. 🦄 💫 She’s a unicorn with a love of all things botanical. Can be found in a lilac forest somewhere, if you’re lucky. She’s pretty shy. 040
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 15/02/2026New leaf reveal today! This plant looks so fake with every new leaf. 140
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 09/02/2026Sorghum thriving in the greenhouse while I’m freezing my butt off in the negatives this week! 000
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 29/01/2026Meet a small but mighty aphid, Melanaphis sacchari, more commonly referred to as the sugarcane/sorghum aphid. These little ladies are an emerging pest in my region and are specialist feeders on sorghum (broomcorn, millet). Economically important pests because of their yield loss potential! 110
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 01/09/2025Obsessed with this D&D piece @tokoriart.bsky.social did for me, which was a gift for my husband! He loves his Dragonborn character so much. 0344
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 15/08/2025In celebration of attending my first Entomology 2025, here’s some adorable art @tokoriart.bsky.social did of my unicorn with her arthropod friends! 2233
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 13/08/2025Monarch butterfly enjoying some blooming milkweed. I don’t blame them, milkweed are fragrant and beautiful. Milkweed is in the dogbane family, which funny enough so are the popular houseplants called hoyas! If you look closely, you can see the familiar flower shape - shooting star clusters. 1123
Nat @nattlebug.bsky.social · 07/08/2025They might not seem like much, but those are ghost bells (Monotropa uniflora). They lack chlorophyll which is why they lack that distinctive green coloration. They are also parasitic and suck the nutrients from other plants! Truly vampires of the plant world. 🧛♂️ 060
